Okay, these words seem a little small for some reason? Maybe not. Anyway, that was from a list I had on my blog from forever ago. I made it into a draft post so I would have a copy of it. It is obviously out of date. I have not read the Stormlight Archive recently enough to do a remake justice, so I won't try. The top 5 is pretty accurate, though. Wayne is lower now. Wax is higher. Galladon is higher. Gemmel shouldn't even be on there. Raoden being higher than Hrathen and Hrathen being higher than Sarene is accurate, although how far up/back they are on the list, I'm not sure about. Tensoon is definitely up there. I'm not sure about the rest.

Happy almost New Years!

Anime Pt 2 (finally)

Written 11/2

That title was written in June of 2017. Obviously I never did get around to actually making that second part to my post about anime.
I was going to write a whole bunch about tons of really good anime that I had watched. I'll just list a few good ones.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Your Lie in April
Erased
Mob Psycho 100
Ping Pong: The Anime
Haikyuu!!

All of those have my fullest recommendation. The original Fullmetal Alchemist is also very good.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, if you want something longer and more epic/action-oriented (it has 64 episodes).
Your Lie in April (my current favorite anime), if you want some romance and comedy and some other spoiler stuff. (22 episodes)
Erased, if you want a mystery with some thriller type stuff (12 episodes).
Mob Psycho 100, if you want awesomeness (I'm not sure how else to describe it write now). (25 episodes, with more to come)
Haikyuu!! if you want a really good sports anime (60 episodes (I think) with more to come)
Ping Pong: The Anime, if you want a really good sports anime that isn't actually all too too wrapped up in the sport itself and it's difficult to describe, but it's amazing (11 episodes)

Fullmetal Alchemist is a bit more violet than the other ones. So if you don't want any of that, then skip that one. (Mob Psycho isn't really violet, but it does have some action fight scenes that I could see some people consider to be violent).

At max, they only have a few seconds of inappropriate clothing. All of those anime are clean, imo.

There are several other anime, which I love, but I'm not going to recommend right now for one of two reasons:
1. The story will most likely never finish/get another season.
2. I watched it a while ago, so I can't guarantee that it's fully appropriate.

This post turned out to be longer than I intended it to be. Too bad it's about a topic that (out of the people who read my blog), only I really care about (Eric being the next closest). It would have probably been more fun for the reader(s), if it had been about a topic more pertinent to them, but whatever.

Pez

Written 11/2

So I'm now going to go through my old drafts. I only have about 9, I think. This one was last edited August of 2016. It was going to be about this Pez collection that Eric and I got. I was going to add pictures and stuff, but that's not going to happen.
When we went to Oregon many years back, there were a lot of Pez dispensers at garage sales. And so we got a whole bunch of them. Most of them were one dollar a piece, I think?
We had a semi-plan that we would sell them many years down the road. We'll see if that ever happens.

Filler

Written 11/2
You know, I had half-plans to make a blog post for each week. 104 blog posts isn't too too many, but at the same time it's a lot.
With there being so many, some are going to be fillers like this one. Or I'll have to settle for once every two weeks or something. We'll see.

Yesterday (December 7th) was my mom's birthday. Happy Birthday Mom!!

The Card (sadness)

Written 11/2
So we actually don't know where The Card is currently located. Which sucks.

If you don't know what The Card is let me briefly explain:
Joseph and I started playing through every Dominion suggested set (including expansions, of course), and we recorded every win on The Card. (Most of them were two player games, but some of them included any combination of Sarah, Ben, and Becky (although never all three at once)).

The Card is important. And we don't know where it is.

Luckily, Joseph thinks he remembers what the current set count is. He won every single Seaside suggested set (which is sad, because Seaside is my favorite expansion). We pretty much split the rest (obviously he went won some more sometimes, and I won some more other times, but overall they allegedly came out even).
We both know Joseph is ahead currently. Joseph believes he is up by exactly the number of suggested sets that exist in Seaside. He is up 6 games. The last game we recorded on The Card was the last suggested set from the expansion Adventures.

If we do not find The Card, when the time comes, we will probably just make another card, and assume that Joseph's memory is correct.

Oh, and apparently this is going to be published on December 1st. Happy Birthday Hannah!! Happy Birthday Tyler Joseph!

Aluminum Gnat can be cool?

Out of Cosmere knowledge (or knowledge about any fictional book, for that matter), my knowledge about Scadrial and the magic systems on that planet is by far the greatest.
I know a lot about Mistborn.
It is my favorite series, after all, so it's not all too surprises. Plus its magic systems are, like, the coolest.

I could be wrong about this, but I'm assuming I'm not because this makes sense to me, and it's fun.

When you burn aluminum, it gets rid of the metal. It does not matter if you can burn that other metal or not, it just has to be allomantically relevant. Now, I'm assuming this also includes metals that a mistborn could burn, but they would get sick (or die) after doing so. (That's important because it adds a ton of potential metals an aluminum gnat could get rid of. (aka, they're not just stuck to pure allomantic metals. If the metals not pure, it would still get rid of it, etc.)).

In order to burn a metal, it does not have to be directly in your stomach. If a dagger made of (good) pewter is stabbed into Vin, for example, she could actually use that dagger as an allomantic reserve.

Let's say I'm a twinborn, with alminum allomancy and gold feruchemy. It would be cool. I get stabbed by a sword/dagger; I burn enough aluminum to make the sword/dagger go away, and then I use health to heal myself. It would be a great time. And it wouldn't work in a lot of scenarios. But it could work in some scenarios, and that's what's fun about it.

Making people's weapons disappear after they stab you is fun in general.

Temporary Answer for Misting Choice

So I did have minor plans to do a thing with misting similar to the thing I did with ferrings. That's fine that I didn't get to it. Especially since I'm pretty sure the choice is fairly easy for me.

There's pretty much one of two options: Steel or Pewter.
And I think I'm going to go with Pewter. It's just so much more useful in my everyday life. Plus I'm k of scared of heights (although I'm sure I would get over it if I was a Coinshot)

Being a Pewterarm does seem to be the most common choice when I ask people what kind of misting they would want to be, but for good reason.

Temporary Final Answer for Ferring Choice

Written 11/2

So I never fully finished my ferring thing. There were some updates to some things I learned that I never wrote about. Mental Speed works slightly different than I thought it did (it does make you smarter, as well as giving you more time to think).

Regardless, if you asked me to choose one right now, I think I would choose Tin for senses. Which surprises me. I was originally going to say Bronze for wakefulness. But I think I'm going to go with Tin. Probably a lame choice in many people's eyes, but there you go.

Obviously that answer will probably change at some point in the future. It could even change tomorrow for all I know. But it's the one I'm going with.

Scheduling Things

So I'm being set apart tomorrow morning. That'll be wild. I'm not fully ready, but no one really is. I think I'm ready to be made ready to be made ready, though, if that makes any sense. I'm going to write a whole bunch of small posts and schedule them because I can. Most of them will probably be this length and I don't know how many I'll write, but we'll see.

11:31pm update: I only got a few months of posts written (with a few being once every two weeks). That's okay, though. It's better than none.

A few things I like about Tuscany

It's in Italy, and I'm part (1/8) Italian, so that's pretty cool.
Oh, wait.
The Tuscany I was actually referring to is an expansion for Viticulture. Sorry if you came here thinking I was talking about the place. Side note: For some reason, now that we've gotten the expansion, we've been referring to the game by the name of the expansion. "Do you want to play Tuscany" instead of "Do you want to play Viticulture". Which is interesting.

Anyway, I wanted to post something, but didn't know what to talk about, but this popped into my head, so I'm just going to talk about it.
First off, I wanted to state that I really do enjoy the base essential edition of this game. It was really enjoyable. But I'm never planning on not using at least the new board expansion that was added in Tuscany. If I'm teaching a new player who's not super duper adept at board games, I probably wouldn't use the structures or new workers. If I am teaching a new player who I know has played lots of games in the past, I might include all three modules at once, I wouldn't be surprised.

I really really enjoy how many good options there are that I want to take. In the base version of the game, all the actions weren't very exciting. There were many action spaces that I just didn't care about. I never felt excited about going to a lot of the spaces on the board. I felt exciting about some of them, sure, but a lot of them felt like they just never got used (imo).
In the expansion, however, there are tons of things I want to do, and I'm not able to do them all. I love that. Every action space I take feels rewarding and enjoyable. I want to do train a worker and build a building and build this other super cool building card, but I also really want to plant and I probably need more green cards, and trading twice is just so cool and good. There are just a lot of exciting things going on, more than I just listed.
And the action spaces feel tight. Adding two seasons means there are less actions in each season. Which means more fighting over those action spaces when the time comes. You have that suspense hoping that your opponent won't take that space you really really want. You feel rewarded when you take a risk and do something else first, but still get the spot you wanted (that's now even better because of your previous action) and you feel crushed when they harvest two field and you just really really needed those crushed grapes. It's enjoyable.

The new wake-up chart is sooo cool. And it just feels exciting. The base game one was pretty good too, but the new one is better by a decent chunk. I love how it gives you exciting options that you want to pick. In Fresco, it was the opposite. Almost all (if not all, I haven't played it in a while) of the wake-up options you have in Fresco are negatives. Everytime you wake up in that game, you're sad. Everytime you wake up in Tuscany, you excited about how many cool things you get this round. Even if you take the top spot and only get a coin, you're instead excited about how you'll (most likely) be going first and you get to take two green cards before anyone else, and then plant twice before anyone else has the chance to get the spot etc.
Another reason why I like it is because it values winter visitors over summer visitors. We played the base game a couple times right before we got the expansion in the mail. And my mom even commented, "Is it just me, or in Fall do I almost always seem to be picking up Winter visitors?" It wasn't just you, Mom. I almost exclusively picked Winter visitors in the base game. Maybe a couple of rounds in the beginning where I would pick Summer ones, but other than that I would get Winter visitor cards. And Tuscany addresses that. You have to wake up later on the wake-up track in order to get Winter visitor cards, and I think that's awesome. Because they do feel more valuable (imo).

The star mini-board off to the side is pretty cool. We've played a few two-player games and two three-player games. In two-player games, it suggests you don't score the victory points, and so we didn't. So the star mini-board is only alright in a two-player game. I still like the variety of choices you get when placing a star, though.
But in a three-player game, it was really cool. It was this strange area-control aspect that actually seemed to fit well into the game. It was cool to see how the spots on the board would shift. When I was ahead, she abandoned her fights with Eric. Thus giving Eric free points at the end of the game, but hopefully stopping me, the person she targeted as being ahead of her in score, from getting a few extra points. My mom doesn't care if Eric gets a few extra points as long as I don't get a few extra since I was ahead. It was cool. I like it.

The structure cards add a lot of variety to what you can do with your money and I love it. And the card all feel cool and exciting.

Special workers are probably my least favorite out of the modules, but they're still a super cool addition. It's fun to have new workers that can do a cool thing that other people might not have. And the fact that you only use two per game means there's a good chunk of replayability in that, which is great. Having different workers each game changes the way everyone plays and it make it more dynamic and interesting.

I love how there are bonuses on the two-player spots now. I've played Viticulture as a two-player game more than any other player count combined, and it's always sad when you can't go on that super cool version of the action you're taking. Now you can in a lot of different scenarios, which is amazing. This also adds a cool thing when you play with more than two people as well. This is because you have to choose between which bonus you want, which is another little interesting choice to think about.

This post was longer than I thought it was going to be, but that's fine. I didn't realize how many new things in the expansion I enjoyed. It's a really good expansion.
I'm so excited to play it and other games with Andrew soon!!

My Mission Call

I'm going to the Utah Salt Lake City mission and I'm reporting to the MTC on November 6th.
I. am. so. excited.
I leave in 48 days. Probably 47 by the time anybody reads this since I'm posting it lateish at night.
It's soooo soooon.
Which means my plans of reading all those books that I wrote about in the previous blog post are out the window. The Ender and Bean series will have to wait until after I get home from my mission. Along with The Giver Quartet (Although I might just read the first book again. It's short, so it wouldn't take too long).

I'm excited. I'm happy.

I've been reading a lot (Favorite Books List Revamp)

So, fun fact of the day that I would bet money I'm the only one who remembers: A long while ago I decided I was going to revamp my favorite books list. I decided I wanted the books to be split apart (instead of by series like they were before). I never did it. Until now *party popper* *party popper* (Note: I'm still debating if I'm going to put novellas on my new list.)

So you can go ahead and look to your left at my new list. Here's the old list in case you're curious:
1. Mistborn Series
2. Ender's Game/Ender's Shadow
3. Books of Umber Series
4. The Rithmatist
5. The Reckoners
6. Elantris
7. Jinx Series
8. The Emperor's Soul
9. Mysterious Benedict Society Series
10. The Healing Wars
11. Alcatraz Vs. Series
12. Flowers For Algernon
13. Uglies Series
14. Fablehaven Series
15. Beyonders Series
16. The Phantom Tollbooth

As you can tell, a vast majority of them are not on the new list. This is because I haven't read them in years. The ones on the list, however, I have read recently. Because I have been doing a lot of reading recently.

I have this info written down in my journal, so I'm just going to transfer it (with own commentary and such added. Not exact quotes or anything). Note: I don't have the start date on many of the books. Just the finished date. Between certain books, I had a couple-few days break, between others (such as the Mistborn Trilogy), I started the next book the day after the previous book. It just depended.

I started on July 6th.
Finished Skyward on July 9th. I read this as an ebook.
Finished Warbreaker on July 17th. I listened to this with GraphicAudio. I couple years back, I listened to about the first half and then stopped. This time I listened to it all the way through.
Finished Elantris for the 2nd time on July 24th using GraphicAudio. The previous time I read Elantris was back in 7th grade.
The rest of the books in this list, I read physical copies of.
Finished Legion: The Many Lives of Stephen Leeds on August 5th.
Finished Mistborn on August 13th for the third time.
Finished The Well of Ascension on August 18th for the third time.
Finished The Hero of Ages on August 27th for the third time.
Finished The Alloy of Law on September 4th for the second time.
Finished Shadows of Self on September 8th for the second time.
Finished The Bands of Mourning on September 11th for the second time.
All the above books are by Brandon Sanderson. The next eight books I have read/will read are by Orson Scott Card.
Finished Ender's Game on September 15th.
I'm currently reading Ender's Shadow. Afterwards I plan on reading the rest of the Bean series, and then the rest of the Ender series. After that, I'll most likely read The Giver Quartet by Lois Lowry.
I plan on rereading The Stormlight Archive + the fourth book when I get home from my mission.

I also read several novellas and the annotations for several books in between.
August 2nd, I read the annotations for Warbreaker and Elantris. Directly after reading the Mistborn Trilogy, I read the annotations for their respective books (aka, right after I read Mistborn, I read the annotations for it etc.). Note: the annotations for those books may have been read the day after.
On August 30th, I read The Eleventh Metal (It was my second or third time doing so) and on August 31st, I read Mistborn: Secret History (for the second time).
Right before I read Alloy of Law, I read Allomancer Jak and the Pits of Eltania (Episodes Twenty-Eight through Thirty).
On August 12th, I read Sixth of Dusk.

Perhaps I'll do a separate list for ranking my favorite short stories/novellas. We'll see.

In conclusion: I've been reading a lot and it's great.

Which Ferring ability? pt.4 Cognitive Metals

Okay, cognitive metals. This is where things get really difficult for me. These four powers are all super high on my list; I think they're all incredible.

Brass (Warmth): This one used to be my pick for being a ferring. Never being too cold or too hot? Yes please. The obvious draw to this power is it being equally useful for both storing and tapping. Winter's chill doesn't get to you. Summer's heat is a pushover.
What I realized about this power, though, is I'm not often bothered enough by being too warm or too cold to warrant me picking it. Especially where I currently live, I survive both the coldest winter nights and hottest summer days relatively well. Obviously it's not a fun time. But it's not that much of a bother. If I lived in a place where the temperature varied more and I couldn't really deal with the heat or cold, this power would be more attractive. Currently, though, I'm not all too interested.

I know I did say I think all four of these powers are incredible, but I did just tear on Brass a little bit. Probably too much. I still think the power is super cool. There are also minor applications that would be fun to experiment with. Tapping tons and tons of it to potentially light things on fire around you. Or tapping a lot to warm people near you up.
And, as I said earlier, this used to be my top pick. It's still high up there for me, I think. I've just realized that I live very easily without controlling my temperature through said means.

Verdict: Still awesome, but I live just fine in my day to day life just dealing with the differing temperatures.

Bronze (Wakefulness): I really really like this power. I think it's important to make sure you get the full effectiveness out of storing it. On paper, storing it doesn't seem that useful; you just spend an extra hour asleep and then later you could tap it for an hour. So, in the course of a day if you did that, you would wake up an hour later and stay up an hour earlier.
But. But.
There are a few ways to make storing it awesome. First off, it becomes super easy to fall asleep anytime, anyplace. And. And. You can stay asleep for as long as you want. During car or plane trips, it's effectively time travel into the future. You just get to be at your destination (supposing you're not driving). You're just automatically there.
Also, I think it would be surprising how in random scenarios in life you could store it for just a few minutes. I forgot my book at work or am waiting for a new book to come, I can just store wakefulness during my break instead of wasting time looking at my phone.
Tapping it has its clear uses.
Maybe I'm overrating this power, but I think it's super cool.

Verdict: Super awesome (imo)

Zinc (Mental Speed): In Bands of Mourning it briefly takes about how tapping mental speed makes you hungry. So, presumably, storing it would allow you to not be hungry? That's not that important, especially since we don't really know how it works, but I thought I would mention it. It also probably gives signs of what's actually happening when you use the power.

Anyway. So, one misconception I had a few years back about this power. It doesn't increase your intelligence at all. It just allows you to think more in a given amount of time. Effectively, time stopping to allow your brain to think.
Storing it would suck. Sazed talks about how he has to struggle to comprehend every word said etc. But, storing it does have its uses. Theoretically, you could time jump with this power, similar to how someone would time jump with storing wakefulness. You store so much mental speed that it just seems like time is passing super quickly since you can't process anything or something like that. The benefits of that have already been talked about.

How useful is tapping it, then. I'm not exactly sure. I wouldn't use it during tests because I feel like that's cheating. I could read faster with it. That'd be nice. If a lot of things are happening around me at the same time, I could easily process and understand all of it. I could listen to several conversations at once since I would have a lot of time to think about what the people are saying. At work when we're particularly busy, it would be nice to be able to process everything that's happening easier.
I think a weird tiny benefit that we might not think of is being able to "live in a moment for longer", if that makes any sense. If there's something exceptional going on, you could have it, effectively, go on for a longer period of time. I'm not sure how often I would use the power like that, but I do think it's cool.

I think one thing that makes this power cool is thinking about the potential of it. If there's a really hard question or problem or something, you can spend a lotta lotta time and solve it in what seems like an instant to other people. It's cool.

Verdict: I think it's cool, but I'm not quite sure when I need to think more at any specific time.

Copper (Memories): Here's the thing about Copper. 1. It's awesome. But 2. I kind of want to keep the memories. Memories that I want to be able to get a fresh copy of at any time would be memories I wouldn't be willing to store in the first place. So, the memories I would store would be ones that I could have multiple copies of. I would make an additional copy in my Coppermind so at any time when I really want the info/watch/see the thing, I could.

One weird thing about this. We learn in the annotations for the Mistborn Trilogy that Sazed was trained at a very early age to memorize very very very well. He has crazy crazy good memory without ever touching a Coppermind. So, the question is, how well would memories stay put in my brain? Sazed is able to take and put back information into his Coppermind (I don't know why I keep capitalizing it, but I am) many many times without needing to replace the old copy with a new one. How many times would I be able to take information out, then put back in, without needing to refresh them? I'm predicting it would be far far less. Which obviously isn't a good thing.
I wouldn't use the power during tests because I feel like I would be cheating.

Even with all this said, I'm sure the power would be incredibly useful and super awesome to have. It pretty much eliminates small written down lists. In many forms at least.
When there's a random phrase or idea that you want to right down, but you can't because whatever reason, you can just chuck it into a metalmind.
You're getting rid of the specific words or whatever in your head at that moment, but you'll remember the build up to them, so you'll still have that memory of them. Point being, you have both your actually memory and the memory in the Coppermind.

Things like visual memories or audio memories for things you can only see/listen to once are the memories I was referring to at the very beginning of this portion. I'd rather have the actual memory of them rather than forgetting them just to remember them later. I want them to be a part of me, not whisked away.
Although you would still remember how you felt and such if you did put the memory away, which is weird. Copper is weird.

Longer memories would be a thing you could store parts of. You're watching a really pretty sunset/sunrise? Those last a while, so you could store parts of the memories, so another time if you really want to see the sunset/sunrise, you totally could.

Verdict: Copper is wild and incredible. Also very very fun to talk about. Also I want to talk more about Bands of Mourning stuff because I just came up with new theories on stuff and I want to spread my ideas. That was mostly irrelevant to this verdict, but whatever.

Rankings:
4. Zinc.
3. Brass.
2/1. Copper/Bronze.          Still not sure on this one.

(I'm not rereading this right now because it's a lot, but I might later and edit a few things)

Ferring Ability Small Update

I'm currently rereading Bands of Mourning (I've been reading a lot recently, which I'm planning on talking about in a different post) and it's given me some new information about feruchemy that I'd forgotten about (the last time I read it was when it first came out (or very near that time)).

The main point of interest: tapping Connection allows you to communicate to people in their language.

As I stated in a previous post, I learned more about feruchemical speed that I didn't realize (from Shadows of Self, specifically).

Anyway, the point of this post is to say that I'll be making a post about adjustments to stuff at some point.

Which Ferring ability? pt.3 Hybrid Metals

Cadmium (breath): So the main usage for this is to go underwater and not have to breath. But I don't like water anyway, so you'll be hard-pressed to find me in a situation that I would use this ability. Maybe it would allow me to like water/swimming more, which would be nice. So that's a small benefit to think about.
Verdict: Might allow me to enjoy playing in water? But meh.

Gold (health): So storing this kind of sucks. And I rarely get injured enough to make it worth it. But, in the random case that I do break a bone etc., it would be quite a nice thing to have. I'm not sure how well this one will rank, but we'll see.
Verdict: Storing sucks, and tapping is rarely necessary.

Electrum (determination): I could definitely see this being useful for situations where I really need to get an assignment of some form done, but I don't want to. I would probably store it when I'm doing an activity that doesn't require the most determination to do. Such as reading. There's probably some other scenarios as well that I can't think of. But, on paper, storing and tapping determination isn't all that appealing, and there's not much to talk about.
Verdict: I don't know *shrugging shoulder emoji*

Bendalloy (nutrition): Note: You can store both food and water in two different metalminds.
So, this is Andrew's choice of being a ferring. He referenced this fact several years ago when we were Christmas Caroling. It was going to be a cool mini-surprise that I still remembered, but then he commented on the other day's post, so there goes that surprise. Regardless, I also still remember part of his reasoning. You go into an all-you-can-eat buffet and you just save up calories and water for a week. You only have to eat, like, once a week (or less or more depending on how you're feeling). I've also thought about the fact that you could do those super food challenges and get tons of stored up calories plus a prize or two.
It would also be useful on my mission (see an update on that on my mom's blog) when people serve me far too much food (which doesn't always happen, but I've definitely heard stories).

The one thing putting me off from being too enthralled by this is I don't really know the ethics of eating that much food at an all-you-can-eat. I would feel like I was stealing if I ate too much. But, at the same time, I wouldn't feel bad if I ate, let's say, two days worth? Which still substantially decreases food costs (hopefully, at least).

One nice thing about this power is you can eat whatever, whenever, and it's only benefiting you. At an activity that offers drinks and treats? Totally partake and then just store the calories for later. Point being: Even if you don't use the power to eat vast amounts of food at an all-you-can-eat, it's still super useful to store up calories by eating random things at random places. You always go for seconds (or thirds) when they're offered. You save time later by not needing to eat.
Verdict: Super useful, but I can't get the best value out of it without feeling bad for taking a lot of their food.

Rankings:
1. Bendalloy           Clearly has good and useful uses. Save tons on money. Don't have to worry about a diet (maybe you do? I'm not sure exactly how it works).
2. Gold                   Healing a broken bone would be nice. Definitely more useful than the other two.
3. Cadmium             It would be nice if I felt comfortable swimming/playing in water. It's not a fantastic benefit, but it would be a nice small perk to life.
4. Electrum            I'm not determined enough to figure out a way to explain why this is at the bottom, which might signify that this power might be more useful than I give it credit for. I don't know.

Which Ferring ability? pt.2 Spiritual Metals

So I'm not going in a direct order (aka, I was originally planning on going to cognitive metals next, but not anymore). I've decided to skip around depending on how I'm feeling. I know the cognitive metals are going to be really crazy to talk about/rank and such, so I doing an easier category to write about.

Another note: I've learned feruchemical speed doesn't work quite like I thought it did. So I'll have to rewrite part of that because the new information definitely changes things.

Nicrosil (Investiture): I've studied a lot about how this one works and such. But there's no real reason to get into the fine details because most of them only matter if there are other powers in the world/if you yourself have other powers. Being a nicrosil ferring is pretty much useless if you have no other powers to play off of. You don't really store investiture; I find that misleading. You're more storing the ability to use different kinds of investiture. And since I would only have the ability to store nicrosil, I'm effectively storing the ability to store my ability. Anyway, it's a little weird and useless by itself.
Verdict: Effectively useless by itself

Aluminium (Identity): So, this one also has a lot of crazy applications, but only when applied with other powers. By itself, it's not all that great. When I store it, I lose my sense of self/I don't know who I am. When I tap it, the reverse happens. Either aren't that useful.
Verdict: Really not useful. Better than Nicrosil, though.

Duralumin (Connection): From the chart: when storing you are "reducing other people's awareness and friendship with them". "You can tap it in order to speedily form trust relationships with others." It's a weird one (as all of the spiritual metals are, pretty much). When tapping it, I feel like I might feel like I'm cheating my way into friendships. So I don't know how I feel about that. (There's obviously more to be talked about here. The topic is very similar to the ethics of using emotional allomancy on people. Breeze talks a lot about it in the original trilogy and such, and I'm sure I could give my thoughts on certain things, but I'll refrain for now). But at least it has its uses. I wouldn't feel bad at all if I tapped it while talking to someone who doesn't like me much. Compared to all of the metals, though, this won't be very high.
Verdict: Has its uses, but they aren't common and not really necessary/all that helpful.

Chromium (Luck): I saved this one for last because it's by far the most interesting and by far my favorite out of these four metals. When you store it, you become unlucky. When you tap it, you become lucky. What "luck" even means, we're not really sure, but that's one of the reasons it's so fun. One downside is whenever I would store luck, I would be kind of afraid of what could happen. We don't know how much of your life it affects. If I'm just reading a book by myself in my room and I'm storing lots of luck, how much of my outside life could be affected? Could I randomly be fired from my job? Could a robber decide to come rob our house? Any number of things could happen. So that's kind of frightening.

But I personally don't think that that much of the outside world would be influenced by me storing luck. So I think I'm pretty safe while storing luck as long as I'm not in a place where tons of unlucky things could happen to me. If I'm at an amusement park while storing luck, somebody could accidentally spill their drink on me. If I'm in my room reading a book, what could really happen? Regardless, I would probably only store low amounts of luck at a time until I figure out exactly how much of my life it affects and in what ways.

Now tapping luck. That's where things would get awesome for me. If you want a generally awesome day, maybe put on 20% luck for the whole day or something like that. I'm sure the day would turn out awesome. Tips from customers flowing in left and right. No angry customers. Maybe find a 5 dollar bill on the ground outside. Your food turns out fantastic. etc. etc. It would be great.
But, if you want something magnificent, you can tap tons and tons of your luck at once. Become incredibly lucky for a few seconds. It would be fun just to see what happens.
Or, perhaps you're in a really dangerous scenario. A rouge car serves into your lane. You tap tons of luck. I don't know exactly what would happen, but it would be fantastical.
Verdict: Could be crazy awesome, but I am also a little scared of what could happen while I'm storing luck.

Okay for the ranking of this section of metals (the results are fairly obvious):
1. Chromium         Really really interesting and cool. It would be kind of like opening a present in the "I wonder what's going to happen when I tap luck" sort of way. Could be kind of scary, though.
2. Duralumin         Some uses. Could be cool to have.
3. Aluminium        Some very minor applications. At least I get a power to play with instead of having nothing like Nicrosil.
4. Nicrosil        Next to no use.

Which Ferring ability? pt.1 Physical Metals

This post contains minor spoilers for the Mistborn Trilogy. It wouldn't ruin your experience of the books all that much, but I don't know. If you haven't read the trilogy, then you're probably not interested anyway, so it shouldn't be that much of a problem.
Oh, I suppose talking about the existence of a ferring is also super minor spoilers to Alloy of Law. (A Ferring is a feruchemist who can only use one power (like the mistings of feruchemical powers)). But, it's such a minor spoiler that I gave the spoiler in the spoiler warning. So. Yeah.

Which ferring ability would I most like to have?

Ok, let's start with the Physical metals since they happen to be at the top left of the chart. I do plan on making some form of decision on which ability I would want by the end of the post, but most of the time I'll just be weighing the pros and cons of each metal. I may situate things differently at a later point.

Couple points I wanted to make before I begin: I'm assuming I am the only person with any powers. It would also be in my current life. I'm not talking about the idea of me being in their world. I'm talking about me getting on of the powers in my current life.
Also, since I'm the only person with powers, Hemalurgy has no influence on my decisions. Granted, it wouldn't if other people had powers since I'm not one to murder people.

So, I was typing up the ending to this post and I realized an inherent problem with some of these abilities. They would just be too obvious. If my muscles could grow and I used that power in public, I would quickly become a phenomenon. That's a problem. So, for purposes of everything, I'm going to say that for some reason people don't question things. They don't question when I tap pewter and my muscles grow. They don't question when I'm floating on the winds as I store lots of weight. I don't know why they don't question, but I need to put that rule into place otherwise a lot of the powers would become a whole lot less useful/cool, since I wouldn't be able to use them with nonfamily nearby.

Iron (Weight): This has always been a fun one. We get to see a lot of its cool uses with Wax and such, but Wax is also a Coinshot, so. Regardless, its power is both useful when storing and tapping it, which I think is pretty important to me. However, gaining weight isn't actually all that useful (in our lives) now that I think about it. So I'd mostly be storing it. Which would be a lot of fun, granted. Going around with a constant spring in my step is appealing, plus, if I really felt like it (and I would), I could store a whole lot of weight and drift off in the wind.
But overall, I don't think it would be that useful to me.
Drifting is super cool, though.
Verdict: Middle of the road, I suppose.

Steel (Speed): This one is super fun on paper. Thomas says it's near the top of his list of powers he would want. I'm pretty sure Joseph has similar thoughts. I, on the other hand, wouldn't care for it. The first major problem, is it sucks to store. Having to struggle to take breathes just doesn't sound fun. Moving through molasses, so to speak, sounds like a sad time. I bring up the breathing because that means, even if I'm sitting still, it's still pretty annoying to store. Also, I don't find the upside all that appealing. Sure, it's interesting enough, but I don't know. It's just, like, when would I use it? The only real times I can think of it just moving to different parts in my house/whatever. But I do just fine as I am right now. But, like, the thought of being super quick is pretty cool. However, even then you couldn't tap too much of it at once because you would need some mental speed to be able to keep up with your body.
Verdict: Meh. Cool, but not interested.

Tin (Senses): This one is definitely interesting to me. In many cases, both storing and tapping would be useful. When storing: Sight, can be mitigated by simply wearing glasses; Taste, allows you to eat super unappealing foods (would be helpful on my mission and at other times when I want to eat super healthy, but unappetizing food); Hearing, instant earplugs whenever you need them; Smelling, allows you to easily bear horrible smells; Sense, I don't know about this one. It might be useful for something.
When tapping: Sight, can see something far away (pretty straight forward upside). Taste, sometimes you just really want to taste that meal real well; Hearing, need to hear something far away or something quiet; Smelling, need to identify something? I'm not sure on this one; Sense, feel something more.
Point being: many of these have good storing and tapping abilities, making it super versatile. Having to have a metalmind for each is a slight downside, though. But I'm sure there's a relatively easy way around that.
Verdict: Definitely keeping my eye (no pun intended? Not sure if that really counts as a pun anyway) on this one. Wouldn't be surprised if a few different abilities beat it out for the top, though.

Pewter (Strength): This one has obvious uses. Being weak wouldn't be fun, but it's not really that big of a burden if you're just sitting around reading/watching something/playing a video game. It isn't useful to become weaker, obviously, but it really wouldn't be that bad at most times. Being stronger obviously has its uses when you need strength to do things. Helping people move, doing the order at work ("the order at work" involves moving lots of boxes filled with stuff as you put things in their correct locations) etc.
Verdict: Not bad, but definitely not impressive. There are just so many more useful abilities out there.

I'm sure there's more intricacies to all these things, but I'm going over them enough to make me happy. This was large enough that I've decided to break this into four separate posts (one for each section of the metals (Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Hybrid (I suppose I'll chuck in the God Metals at some point as well))). Also, I've decided to rank them. At the end of the four-ish posts, I'll combine the list into a large 18 metal list of my ranking of which powers I would want. It shouldn't be too much time between the posts, but we'll see.

So, for this first section:
1. Tin      Clearly my favorite out of these four. So useful both storing and tapping. Very versatile.
2. Pewter        Storing strength isn't bad and being able to be stronger is useful in so many situations in life. Sure, if I didn't have the extra strength I would be fine, but the convenience is nice.
3. Iron           Floating around is super cool. But it's not useful. Plus, two problems with floating around: 1. It's annoying to get back to home/wherever 2. Would it really be that enjoyable after the first few times? You're just at the whims of the winds. You'd have to worry about running into a tree or something. Going around at about 3/4 weight would be nice, though. Regardless, this and Pewter are fairly close and I could definitely see myself being persuaded by someone to rank this above Pewter in the future.
4. Steel         Sorry Tom and Joe. I just don't care for this one. The downside is worse than pewter's by a lot. And being fast just doesn't seem useful. It might be cool for a bit, but it would rarely be applicable to my life. If I'm walking somewhere, that means it's already nearby, so I'm cool with just walking at my normal pace.

Now, Not Yet (an album)

So, half alive's album is really really good and I wanted to make that opinion expressed. The album is called Now, Not Yet and you can find it here. The lyrics are important, so I suggest reading them. Half alive is my second favorite band.

That was pretty much the purpose of the post. Just letting people know that half alive is awesome, regardless of your opinion.

I'm planning a few posts about books and certain magic systems, so be on the look out for those, if you're interested in that type of thing (specifically referring to my brothers (Ryan should probably finish the Mistborn trilogy before reading them, though. Just for the sake of avoiding minor spoilers (granted, there would also be minor spoilers for the Wax and Wayne series, but whatever. They're minor enough where I wouldn't worry about them))).

A dream with a no good ending

...but it caused some interesting questions
(that would be the rest of the title, but I deemed it too clunky and long, so I put it in the post instead)

So, dream story time that then connects to something else that it made me think of.

I know the story was bigger than I remember. I remember flashes/images of things that took place beforehand, but I'll tell you what I remember (which I'm pretty sure is the important parts anyway).

There were two people fighting against an army. They were asked to surrender (which meant losing their lands/religion/everything they have pretty much). They said no. One man (the main character) rushed out into battle. He narrates over himself doing said thing saying, "No one could defeat me." There was a few shots of him defeating men, a few shots of him defeating gigantic demon creatures (that looked similar to the ones in Infinity War, except twice the size). The way he fought reminded me of minor mistborn spoilers (using a certain metal).

He fought and fought until a group of assassin-looking people came up. They used a gaseous poison. Our great warrior suddenly thought that he was pregnant and that one of the assassins was one of their family members. He knew he had to get to a hospital soon, so they took off. There was a montage of traveling. At each train station/whatever, the person they talked to was a plant. They were one of the bad guys. Of course, our hero doesn't know this (especially since he's currently under a poison of some form that alters his thinking). In one of these shots, it's revealed that our hero was Andrew, my brother. That's not relevant to the plot in any way, but I thought it was super cool and worth sharing.

For some reason, with each of these train station guards/whatever, we played a game of rock/paper/scissors. For the bad guys plan to work, our hero had to win every game. So all the bad guys intentionally lost (I'll get to intentionally losing in rock/paper/scissors in a second). They continue to travel, facing several people in rock/paper/scissors and winning every game until eventually the hero gets home and set up into a trap/holding cell of some form. The hero wakes up and realizes he's been trick. The enemy gloats a little and explains their plan to our hero. The hero pauses and says he understands everything but one detail. How in the world did every single bad guy intentionally lose the game of rock/paper/scissors they played? (Side note: I'm pretty sure it was told why they needed to play rock/paper/scissors, but I've forgotten.)

The bad guy explained that they could look at the hand and by the slight movement of their fingers, they could tell. If no fingers moved for a split second when throwing, the hero was throwing out rock. If two fingers moved slightly, it was scissors. If all, it was paper. They just had to wait a tiny bit longer than our hero before throwing in order to read what he was going to throw. (aka, they basically waited to see what he threw, and then threw the losing thing. But due to their increased senses/whatever, they only need the very few brief moments at the very beginning of the throw to see which fingers were going to go out.) (I hope that made sense.)

That's where my dream ends, sadly. I never learned how our hero/the good guys ended up coming out on top, if they did at all (which I'm sure they were). Sorry to have you read that long thing just to have the story not really have an ending.

But this all brought me to this one thought I had. Which now that I've thought about is void. So that's sad. I'll tell you the thought anyway. The original thought: My subconscious came up with that idea on how to intentionally lose each game of rock/paper/scissors (of course, you could use it to win every game as well). If asked, before having that dream, how to do so, would that have been my response?

That was the thought, pretty much. But then I thought about it more and realized I totally have in the past (as I'm sure many other people have) theorized about how you could read the person's fingers and then use that information against them, supposing you have an incredible eye and reaction time.

Although the idea still makes me curious. Our subconscious, during dreams, does come up with ideas. Before said dream, while were awake/conscious, how well could we come up with those same ideas? How original/creative is our subconscious?
I think it's interesting.

(I didn't reread this post, so I apologize for any weird errors or anything)

Hiding

I don't understand why I'm afraid of writing an emotional blog post. I know I'm afraid of misrepresenting my feelings. And I know I could disagree with my feelings only a day later when I'm in a different mood. And so I avoid it. I can't seem to write down my feelings, especially sad feelings. Not in blog post at least.
I don't even like writing about not writing about emotional things, so I'm stopping here.

Well, I guess this next thing kind of goes along with the previous thing.

Writing a song is appealing to me because it's a medium of communication that I can say things that I can't say anywhere else. I'm not interested in really making it sound good. I'm interested in writing lyrics. I guess poems might be a way to do something similar. But I don't like that idea for some reason.
I feel like I need to be very transparent in communicating the way that I feel. A song can do that with the musical element "hiding it" while still being very transparent if you just read the lyrics. While as a poem, I feel like I inherently need to mask how I feel by using vague terms or something something.
Music has a natural cover that allows me to express things. Poems don't have that cover, so I feel I have to create it myself, which contradicts the fact that I feel I need to be very transparent in communicating the way that I feel.
I keep repeating the same thing, but I keep coming up with new ways to say it, so I keep saying it: I can't do poems because I feel like I need to hide. Music gives me a way to hide without actually hiding.

Too bad I'm really bad at creating music. I'm not even sure if that's true. I mean, I know that my current ability to do so is poor. I just don't know if I'm just not talented at it either. I'm a quick learner. I'm sure I could be pretty competent at it, if effort was given. But it's currently not on my scope of things to spend time doing.

I feel that there is more to be written.

Yanny vs Laurel; End of NYLT Writings

Next day: So, my Yanny vs. Laurel story because obviously that's still relevant and not at all not cared about anymore. I first was introduced to it by a WheezyWaiter video (Link?). At some point he plays the audio clip back to back. The first time he played the audio clip I distinctly heard "Yanny", and I'm like "Yeah, that's definitely 'Yanny'". But then, a couple seconds later he played the audio clip again and I clearly heard "Laurel". I thought, "Holy crap, there's no way that's the same audio clip." I went back to relisten to both and heard Laurel both times and it was crazy. A little later I listened to the audio clip again. When I focused and thought about hearing Yanny, I heard Yanny. When I focused and thought about hearing Laurel, I heard Laurel.
I'm basically at the point where I exclusively hear Laurel, now, though. It's weird. I'll have to look up the dress thing
8
and report on that because I forget which I see.
It's so annoying how much food we have to eat. I was stuffed yesterday after dinner and now I'm super hungry.
Saying something is indescribable has always been funny to me because you're describing it by saying it's indescribable.
Later: I'm semi-running into writer's block right now. I mean, I suppose that makes sesne since I've just been writing a while bunch. I really want to type this all up already. I (mostly) haven't reread any of the stuff I've written, so it'll be interesting to read it all again.

Movie Reviews and What I Like in Movies (the basics, at least) (NYLT)

Next day (now with a blue pen!): I think it would be tons of fun if I started reviewing different movies. We watched Apollo 13 last night, which was pretty good. It's amazing how well they pulled it off and made it exciting even though we already know the ending. But I suppose it's useful/good that it's based off a true story/we knew the ending. If you don't know what happened before you watched the movie, the ending would have (probably) been super predictable. Knowing the ending beforehand is (probably) better than having a super predictable ending.
I suppose it being based off a true story makes the movie as a whole. Part of the excitement comes from the fact that it happened and how amazing it is that they survived. You're not watching to know the story (which reminds me of Infinity War and I want to talk about it sometime in the future). You're watching to see the story. You already know the story, you're just watching it to see it in a more detailed exciting cinematic experience.
I guess I'll just talk about Infinity War right now since it's super integrated into this idea in my head. Why did I watch Infinity War? To know what happens. I did not, necessarily, watch it to go watch a good movie. I almost purely watched it to figure out what happens. How it happened didn't matter nearly as much to me. I could expand this topic in several different ways right now and hopefully I can get to them all eventually [how Apollo 13 is the exact opposite; what I care about in a movie now and in the future; expand about Marvel not being that good which ties into (what I care about in a movie); more about Infinity War vs. other Marvel movies; what specific movies I'll watch in the theater/why I don't like movie theaters (I believe I have talked about this in the past)]
7
While Apollo 13 was the exact opposite. I watched it for how the movie makers made it happen, not what happens. This is one reason I think that Infinity War will be ranked solidly on many people Marvel's list, but won't be quite the top. Later, that is. I still think the craziness and impact of it is still too fresh on our minds, which biases the data. The movie experience of Infinity War was just. plain. crazy. But that was the movie experience. In the future, because of the 'what-happensness' instead of the 'how-it-happeness' will cause people, when picking a Marvel movie to watch, to often not pick Infinity War but instead to pick a different Marvel movie as just a solid movie to watch. I'm not sure if what I'm trying to get across makes sense, but it makes sense in my head.
I have more things to talk about regarding movies, but I feel like moving on for now. I'm not sure as to what, but.

MWAHAHAHAHA (Ben's post)

So my cousin Ben made this forever ago. He never finished, but I thought I would publish what was done. If at any point in the future he wants to finish, I'll allow him to. So here's his uncompleted post:

So Alex told me that I could do Whatever I Want so here we go Ben reporting on a few things today is Your boy Thomas's birthday, Rogger Feders's birthday, there was a smash announcement today and a new twenty one pilot song so Yea?, but instead I am going to write about the twenty one best songs (not including twenty one pilots). One of the first songs I thought of was all star by smash mouth this song is so good not just because it is a meme but it has nostalgia to anyone that watched the Digimon movie, The second song that came to mind was the Mii theme because it is a nice calm music and it has a great beat and reminds me of good times in theater class.the third song is The Kim possible theme song It is one of the best TV Theme song ever it has so much energy and makes you want love your life to the fullest. Number four is the greatest Television theme song which is Duck Tales theme I actually watched a video on why this song is so good it is because of the rhythmic slides and the daring adventures it talks about. The fifth song is A Tribe Called Red Electric pow wow it is dub step Native American music and the best description of it is an energy drink in a song. The sixth song is John Denver Leaving On A Jet Plane It is not the most emotional song but it still brings some feelings and it just sounds so good and is my personal favorite of the John Denver's music. The seventh song is Chicago Hard To Say I'm Sorry I'm trying to figure out why this song is so good but it is kind of like the the Mii theme where it is hard know why it is good but it just is so good. The eighth song is Toto Africa this song is good because it goes dododododo dololdolodolo. Number nine is Hank Greens I Know the reason this song is so good because it only has ten words which makes it so simple and complex at the same time. The tenth song is the disatance by cake

3 and a half turns and then back to the beginning except not

So this morning when I wanted to sit down and write a blog post, I was originally planning on tackling a complicated topic, but I decided I wanted some more levity.
I just attempted a few times to give a brief description of the topic, but I realized just how complex it was and how I would need to be extremely careful with how I word things. I don't know. I just want to be careful with it. It dealt with "Influencers". Or something something. That's all you'll get about that for now.

So. Levity (I may be using that word wrong, idk).
Minecraft.
It's quite possibly my favorite video game of all time. Super Smash Brothers Ultimate is the only game challenging it.

You know, change of plans, let's get back to that later maybe. Not sure yet.

It turns out I haven't posted all of my writings from NYLT yet. I still have three more posts ready to be put up from that. So those will come out soon. I only have fond memories of NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) (except one story that's personal (reminder to those who know about it: It deals with someone taking a tumble)), but I remembered writing those when I was bored or uninterested. The classes were fairly useless. I didn't really learn much. But at the same time I learned a lot? I'm not sure.
I loved NYLT, regardless.
I should probably reread those writings to help me remember exactly what I was feeling.

Is what actually happened or what we remember happening more important?
Because, theoretically, even if I was super uninterested in a lot of what was happening at the camp, the fact that I remember loving it and I remember all the awesome parts is pretty important. Those parts where I really didn't care don't matter to me now.

I've just decided to title my posts from now on without worrying about being slightly deceiving or not accurately representing what exactly is in the post. Titles are hard (as I've talked about many times in the past), so I'm giving myself the liberty to do weird things with them.
For example, this post's title refers to the fact that the topic changed 3 and a half times (It was going to be a complicated topic --> Minecraft --> NYLT --> What we remember --> Talking about titles (talking about what we remember counts as a half of a turn because I say so (plus it still dealt with the previous topic of NYLT))) and then it will be back to Minecraft except not because I decided I didn't want to talk about it over typed words.
To fulfill the title it's back to Minecraft except not:

I'm really excited to make some more memories in Minecraft. Minecraft is the game with the most memories, for me.
I was going to talk all about such and such things dealing with Minecraft, but it's something, I feel, is so much better communicated over the medium of voice. Communicating it over typed words doesn't feel quite right, so I'm not going to.

On the Purpose of Posts

So I'm still, like, thoroughly confused on the purpose of my posts. It is whatever I want. But I'm clearly writing so other people can read it. But what other people? Who's my audience here? What's the purpose of the post I'm about to write? It's for myself, but it's also for others. Without the others does it lose all of its purpose? And if it does, then is it worth writing down? It's similar to a journal, but not quite. A journal meant to be shared with others, at least in my blog's case. It's weird.

It's confusing to the point that I don't know how to fully describe its confusingness. Which is probably common among confusing things, but it applies here. I'll keep talking about it and maybe I'll get somewhere, though.

I don't know why I write posts ever. What's the base desire? I think it might deal with the thrill of sharing something that could be considered personal with whomever.
But, like, I don't really care about the whomever. I care about specific people reading this. I don't care if random people I don't know read this. It's mildly cool, but that's not at all why I post.

Then why don't I just individually message those people? Because this is simultaneously more and less personal than a personal message? I guess it might just deal with the fact that's it's an alternate way to put thoughts into words. It's not necessarily worse or better than other methods of telling people things; it's just different. And that difference has different strengths and weaknesses than the other forms of communication.
And with different strengths and weaknesses, I guess that means it what I said about it not necessarily being worse or better is wrong. Depending on the scenario, making a blog post is better. That's why they are made. If it wasn't better, then the only reason to make a blog post versus something else is to simply have a blog post. Which isn't the worst of all reasons, but is a pretty lackluster reason.

Note: I'm only referring to myself here. I think other people have completely different legitimate reasons to make blog posts that are completely different than mine and totally make sense for them.

New Songs From (New) Places

I mean, they're not really new places, that's why I put the parentheses (and it goes along with the title of "I like (the idea of) you", so it's cool that way). They're just not twenty one pilots who is the band I typically talk about.

Half alive is coming out with a new song at some point. It's called Runaway, I believe. "Arrow" is fairly new, so I'll mention that one.
Tessa Violet just released "I like (the idea of) you", which I've had on repeat this morning. Gosh dang it, I like this song.
Bastille is releasing their third studio album soon. "Joy" (the more recent song out of the two) and "Quarter Past Midnight" are both part of it. Some of the songs will be explicit in this album, fyi.
AJR just released a new album, Neotheater. Some of the songs are explicit in this album, fyi.

I've also been listening to a lot of Billie Eilish, but her music isn't new, just new to me.

I'm consistently surprised by the amount of sounds in the world. Fresh music just continues to be made.

My favorite twenty one pilots list is almost done, I promise.

I'm camping today and I'm excited, even if I'm not really sure what I'm going to do since I won't be fishing (like a lot of other people will be).

I'm heckin' excited about everything right now.

I'm doing worse than you think, but better than I give myself credit for.
