SSBU Tourney Results (list explanation)

Explanation of the new list currently entitled "SSBU Tourney Results". (SSBU stands for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate)

Format of each item in list:

The first item: A link to this post.

The second item: The kind of but not really Official PGR. This is a website our region has been using to keep track of players' rankings within the region. It auto-ranks people based off how well they did in tournaments they have attended and such.

There are debates on how well it does its job. It seems to weigh certain things more than many people in our region would weigh it. But we're giving it a shot regardless. I'm under the tag "Theo". (In case you're interested, my cousin, Ben, enters with the tag "MetaToaster".)

All other items:

Placement (out of number of people), Tournament Name. Money Won.

If clicked upon, they are linked to the tournament's bracket found on smash.gg.

BLB stands for Blue Light Bash. These tournaments are the bigger, more important tournaments, which take place every Thursday. Most top players in Rexburg (and some surrounding areas) are there if they're able to make it. There are consistently over 30 attendants. It has a venue fee of 4 dollars. If you want to enter the prize pool, it's an additional 3 dollars. Top 4 players who entered the prize pool receive prize money. These tournaments factor into the official player rankings (the PGR).

FF stands for Free Fridays. These tournaments are a fun, lower-pressure way to get more experience. Hence the name, they take place every Friday (unless something comes up for the Tournament Organizer (the TO)) and are free to enter. These do not factor into the PGR. Only a few top level players come to these tournaments each week, and there are about 16 entrants each week.

A Super Smash Brothers Melee bracket also takes place. You can also enter super fun side event brackets as well. Which side event depends on how the TO is feeling, but some possibilities include: Doubles, Squad Strike, Project M Squad Strike, Singles with certain items on, amongst other potential things. Doubles and Squad Strike are by far the most common, however.

My Favorite Half Alive Songs Tier List

Couple notes about said tier list:

Ice Cold is ranked the lowest, which is funny because it's pretty much Ben's favorite.

3 of their newest songs are in my top 5. I'm really really enjoying a vast majority of their new songs. I'm really excited for their newest album. Lowkey I probably should have waited until it came out before I finished this tier list, but too late now.

My Favorite Board Games Tier List

Few notes about the list etc.:

-I only included games I've played half way recently, so there are probably various noteable games that aren't on the list even though I'm sure they would be if I played them again. (For example: 7 Wonders, Village, My Village, and Heroscape)

-Viticulture took a big dip, which I'm sad to report. Still love the game for sure. But I for some reason I haven't been enjoying it as much as of late.

-3 of my top 10 games are games that I played for the first time over Christmas Break. I absolutely love The Crew: Mission Deep Sea, Between Two Castles of Mad King Ludwig, and Letter Jam. Definitely huge hits for me.

-Not sure why Dune: Imperium wasn't a huge hit with me. Seems like my type of game, but I guess it just didn't click with me.

-Legacy games are not included in the list. If they were, Pandemic Legacy Season 1 and 0 would both be in S tier somewhere and Season 2 in A tier somewhere. SeaFall is still my favorite board gaming experience I've had, but the game itself would probably land in B tier somewhere.

-Charterstone is a legacy game as well, but it is replayable after the campaign is finished, so I put it on the list.

Although I can say that I won't play it for a very long time. I sadly didn't like the game as much as I hoped I would.

I still had a ton of fun because I was around family and there were many cool things going on throughout the campaign, but I never felt I got a good grasp on the gameplay itself. I don't really know how to win. Which is kind of concerning in a strategy game.

I'm sure having to play 12 games in roughly 6-7 days didn't help the experience as well. I was definitely burnt out on Charterstone by the end of the week.

I'm sure I could write much much more about my thoughts and feelings on the game, but I'll leave it at that for now.

My Favorite Books Tier List

So I've decided to do my favorite lists a little bit different this time around. I'm putting everything into tier lists. I rather enjoy tier lists.

Of course, these tier lists will not include every book I've ever read or every game I've ever played.

For instance, in this tier list many many books I have read I removed since I haven't read them in years and years.

As I continue to do things (read books, play games etc.), I will continue to revamp my lists as normal (still pondering an efficient way to have the updated list easily accessible without creating a whole additional post to show a small update on a tier list. But I've got some ideas stirring).

Couple notes about the books below:

Hero of Ages unsurprisingly is still my favorite book of all time.

Skyward, which I reread recently, thoroughly impressed me. It is such a clean, beautiful book. I think I prefer it to the first book in the Mistborn series, which is definitely notable (we'll see if that changes after my reread of the Mistborn books in preparation for The Lost Metal next year). It's kind of a shame that I don't prefer the sequels to Skyward nearly as much.

Which is similar to how I absolutely love Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow but didn't really enjoy the next two books in the Bean series all that much. I still need to read book 4 in said series (leaving on my mission sooner than expected prevented me from finishing the series outright, so now I need to do some back tracking). Ender's quartet is also on my long list of books to read.

Next up on my reading list, I'm going to go through Oathbringer (which I've already read once) to prepare myself for Rhythm of War.

Cool new list thingy to the left, bytheway. Includes recent reads amongst other things. What I put on there exactly will probably expand and wane throughout time.

So It Begins...

Welp, I'm home. Kind of wild, eh?

I spent the last 2 years serving the Lord in the Utah Salt Lake City mission. What a blessing it has been.

Many posts, I'm sure, will still involve my faith. It is the most important thing to me, after all. I'm sure I'll get to share more about various experiences I've had on my mission. Lessons I've learned, people I know I was supposed to meet, tender mercies, not mere coincidences amongst others in the plethora of things you can draw from in a mission.

But, of course, many posts will now involve many many many other things. I have many projects in mind :)
