Pre-Christmas Day Game Playing Report

  • Unexpectedly, Chess has been our #1 game played this weekend. Blitz Chess (5 min timer each) in particular being the version played the most. I now have the chess.com app downloaded and have been studying.
  • Spirit Island and Terraforming Mars are great and have both been played a handful of times.
  • As a group effort, we have obtained the Platinum Medal in all games in Wii Play, which has been an absolute blast.
  • Yahtzee with Grandma Jervis is always a good time. Today she broke 500 points, which may be the highest scoring game of Yahtzee I have ever witnessed.
  • Played many games of Two Rooms and a Boom, which has worked fantastically. We got the Aunts and Uncles in on a round, and they all said they enjoyed it which was awesome.
  • Some Smash Bros, of course, has been played. Along with some Minecraft.
  • Many other games not mentioned have also been played.

We'll see what the second half of Christmas break has to bring us.

Merry Christmas :)

Flow of Posting Posts and Typing Tests

I think it's fascinating how I ebb and flow with posting posts. During October, I was feeling it and posted once a week with more ideas coming on topics I want to write about.

And then I kind of just stop? And I'm not sure why? And so my posts go down to once every other week or once every 3 weeks, even though I'm still sitting on many ideas that I want to become blog posts. And I don't really know why that happens.

Even this post, for example, is a completely separate idea from the several draft ideas that have been sitting there for weeks, or even months. I look at them, and I want to write them, but then I just don't want to. Idk, it's weird.

And so I think posts like this one and the previous post are helpful. They refresh me, I think. Allow me to kind of just write what I'm feeling in the moment about whatever topic I'm thinking about at the time. And it's great. I love writing out my thoughts; I love trying to use words to articulate these concepts that are floating around in my mind.

Wanted to do some more typing tests. I feel like I've been improving recently. And having blog posts sporadically about what my typing speed is has been a thing over the past decade, so I want to continue that.

I'll be using typingtest.com. I'm going to do a easy, medium, and a hard test all with a 2 minute timer. Results below:

Easy: 84wpm with 97% accuracy = 82 wpm

Medium: 79wpm with 100% accuracy = 79 wpm

Hard: 77wpm with 100% accuracy - 77 wpm

The accuracy is allowing backspaces, so I made many mistakes, but I'm allowed to backspace and correct it making the accuracy better.

One downside of using typingtest.com is I've done it quite a bit now, so all the tests are becoming more familiar. I'm going to do a 3 minute test from typing.com as well.

Results 78wpm with 98% accuracy (I'm not sure exactly how this accuracy works).

Neat.

Prayer Journal Concept

You know, I have quite a few blog post ideas fumbling around my head. Not sure what's exactly keeping me from seeing them to fruition. Regardless, I've decided to do more of a free flow post today, which I haven't done in a long while.

The goal is to kind of just write down whatever various things come to mind.

For example, the first thing that pops into mind is how I have this idea of how to merge saying a really solid prayer with keeping a good journal. This idea is, of course, probably already been done, but I haven't seen it anywhere, so that's worth something at least.

The thought process came from the idea of a general structure of a good prayer.

Basic outline (not that prayers have to follow this *add more nuance etc. here*):

Address Heavenly Father.

Tell Him about your day.

Express Gratitude.

Ask for blessings (both for yourself and others).

Close in the name of Christ.

So my thought is that these core things that you'd want in a prayer happen to be what you would want in a really good journal.

So what you do is you structure each page/day of your journal as a prayer. And you write out your prayer to Heavenly Father. And then you still have it and it acts as a fantastic journal.

Idk, I think it has potential. I haven't tried it yet, but I think it's cool in theory.

The Lost Metal was super good, btw :)

Updated Books and Board Games Tier Lists

Interesting things I find interesting:

Shadows of Self jumped up that high?? (It was previously in C tier). Yeah, I know, it surprised me too. I wrote about it a bit in a previous post, but, man, did I love my reread of Shadows of Self. So good.

Dawnshard was okay. Not sure why I didn't like it more.

So so excited for The Lost Metal.

Scythe is number 7?? Yeah, I know, it surprised me too. I love the game mechanically whole bunches, but I realized I simply have more fun playing the other games above it.

Dominion is my number 1 again. It's been a while since it's been up there, but it deserves it. I love that game. I find each individual game a fascinating puzzle laid out before me. Dominion Online has really helped. It makes the game quicker, which is fantastic. I enjoy how I can see an active count of my opponent's points; it does spoil some of the suspense at the end of the game, but I feel like it adds suspense throughout the game as I try to race people out. I've also been really enjoying the Daily Dominion they offer. Dominion online is both on Steam and as an app; I highly recommend.

Spirit Island and Terraforming Mars make their first appearances. I love them both so so much.

Surprisingly, Spirit Island isn't even my favorite cooperative game. The Crew: Mission Deep Sea is just so good.

A few other games make their first appearances. Some stellar games too. Magic Maze and The Mind are absolute blasts to play. I just have so much fun (almost) every time I play them.

The Chameleon is fascinating to me, but I have a couple problems with the game that make it difficult to have a truly fun experience with it. You need a really good group to make the game work, and that's just difficult to find.

My Man on a Mission Episode Rankings/Thoughts

Hello!

If you aren't aware, Man on a Mission is a series me and my wonderful companion, Elder Niutupuivaha, created while we served together at the beginning of the covid pandemic.

Please please if you haven't watched them, watch them here. If you have watched them, I fully recommend doing so again.

I want to write some of my thoughts about the episodes and rank them :)

I could go on and on about the details of these episodes. Perhaps I will someday. There is so much I could talk about. Behind the scenes stuff, expanded canon, various memories, and probably more.

For purposes of this post, I'll try to keep my thoughts a bit briefer for each episode. Followed by my rankings/tier list.

All the stats are current as of 10/14/22

Episode 1: Meet the Missionaries

Stats: 257 reactions, 10 comments, 7k views.

What a foundational episode. Really kick boosted the whole series.

It created so many tropes used throughout the course of the whole series. Dramatic Zoom-In. Dramatic Reveal. Bike Guy having extraordinary powers (seeing a guy from forever away that happens to be in a building but that doesn't matter). Me putting on Elder Niutupuivaha's clothes so it feels like he is in two places in one shot. Magically become Suit Guy in the last scene. Elder Niutupuivaha playing multiple characters. Breaking the fourth wall at the end.

All pivotal things to the entire series.

Episode 2: The missionaries just wanna help

Stats: 495 reactions, 18 comments, 12.5k views

So many good laughs in this one. The pacing does slow down a bit too much in the middle. Introduces perhaps my favorite character, mechanic (whom we call mechanic even though this is the only episode he does mechanic things). Toilet paper line fit perfectly with the time the video was released.

I could talk so much more, but I want to keep my thoughts brief. There's 10 episodes after all. These small paragraphs are going to add up.

Episode 3: You're never alone

Stats: 413 reactions, 31 comments, 9.4k views

Talking to himself on the video camera; really well done. Suit up scene into wheelie scene; absolutely beautiful. Mechanic with toilet paper continuity. Yessah got introduced, which is at the end of every episode going forward.

Episode 3 is oh so good. I love this episode. When it was created, I thought it was going to be impossible to top. I was wrong.

Episode 4: Turn to the Book of Mormon for Comfort

Stats: 1.2k reactions, 33 comments, 23.6k views

Episode 4 is absolutely golden. When it was created, I thought it was going to be impossible to top. I was right. Kind of. There are solid arguments for Episode 5 topping it.

Episode 4 also finishes off this three episode arc that starts in Episode 2. It is beautiful.

Seriously, this episode is incredible.

Episode 5: Families Can Be Together Forever

Stats: 1.15k reactions, 30 comments, 23.5k views

Introduces Son, who is another fantastic character. This episode is perhaps the funniest episode. Solid stuff.

Two fun facts of the day:

1. I had to re-edit the entirety of this episode (on a side note, we used Google Photos for every episode) due to our first edit becoming corrupted somehow.

2. During the re-edit, I accidentally put in the wrong bearing testimony/invitation clip. They're pretty much the same, but the one we wanted to use referenced the Atonement of Jesus Christ, which we felt was important to include.

Episode 6: Going to Church

Stats: 398 reactions, 10 comments, 8.5k views

Definitely the weakest episode so far. But it still has its moments. Bike is pretty much it's own character at this point, haha. The very end with the blurry video and words on top I think is hilarious.

So originally we had something completely different planned for this episode. But then we were informed that missionary attire would now be mandatory in all videos, so we took this episode to transition from their clothes they've been using to missionary attire.

Episode 7: Know Your Roots

Stats: 335 reactions, 5 comments, 8.1k views

I love this episode. Definitely one of the best, imo. So funny, it's shorter, which is nice, the invitation at the end is fantastic and keeps you engaged. Good stuff.

And the plot twist! Red Hat Guy and Mechanic are brothers?! We actually had that twist planned since, like, episode 2 or 3, haha.

Episode 8: The Holy Ghost is Personal

Stats: 297 reactions, 2 comments, 7.4k views

Also a weak episode, although the falling asleep scene is hilarious and the Jesus reveal is fantastic.

Also, if you haven't noticed already: Every episode has one or more pineapples in it. We failed to get a pineapple in this one until the last second, so the pineapple barely looks like a pineapple.

The pineapple is supposed to be the vase (which is vaguely pineapple-shaped) with the papers (which are supposed to be leaves) sticking out of it. Haha, yeah. Not a good pineapple.

Episode 9: The Spirit is a Guide

Stats: 293 reactions, 4 comments, 6.8k views

Stats wise, I honestly think this is the most underrated episodes, although it is hard to compare against the best of the best.

I definitely think this is the best invitation. The multiple shots keep it interesting and perky.

Episode 10: And Christ is the Way

Stats: 340 reactions, 16 comments, 9.5k views

Love the fact that Red Hat Guy is called Uncle here; I think that's awesome.

As an individual episode, this episode is weak. But as a series finale, I think it's pretty satisfying. You learn who the companion is (look, it's me!), Son gets baptized and the whole family is there for it. It's just nice.

My Official Rankings:

S-Tier: 4, 5, 7, 3, 9

A-Tier: 2, 1

B-Tier: 6, 10, 8

22

I was planning on having a post yesterday about my birthday or something something. Then I realized I don't know what I would really want to write about.

Still have that same problem, of course. Not sure what I was expecting to change, but I still want to write something, at least. Feel like I should.

In the course of a day, I'm suddenly a whole year older. Crazy how that works.

2 Biggest Things From General Conference For Me

 1. NEW FOR STRENGTH OF YOUTH PHAMPLET I AM SO EXCITED IT IS AWESOME (granted, I've only read a small part of it thus far, but it is so good).

2. Hope, I suppose? Self-Confidence?

I mean, I guess I always feel those emotions whenever walking out into the world after a general conference weekend, but I feel this is more sturdy. Helping myself have a better core view of myself.

This is building off of recent events/conversations I've had, but certain messages continued to push it forward. I could dig deeper about it, but I'd prefer to leave it at just that for now.

A Myriad of Reviews (and other minor updates)

Taking a Film Analysis class now, which involves watching a movie every Wednesday. Not sure how many I'll be writing a blog post about, but regardless I thought I would mention it.

Also at the very bottom of the blog there's now the catalog thing of all my posts ever broken down in year/month (same thing that's on Andrew's/Eric's/Mom's blogs). Honestly not sure why I've never added it until now. It's pretty cool.

Onto reviews/thoughts of varying lengths about various media that I've consumed recently:

Alloy of Law/Shadows of Self/Bands of Mourning:

Soooo good! Honestly a lot better than I remember. Especially Shadows of Self. I feel like I've always underrated it because the theme isn't what I wanted it to be.

In other words, after reading the original trilogy, which is (especially the third book) a little bleaker, you get a super fun, refreshing, light-hearted Alloy of Law. And it's fantastic. But then Shadows of Self comes along, and it's darker, sadder, less light-hearted etc. And I kind of wanted more of the light-hearted stuff.

But when I remove my pre-expectations and just go in with a fresh mindset and take the book for what it is, it is so good. I loved it. Better than Alloy of Law?? Not sure yet, I'll have to ponder on that one.

Another thing that surprised me:

In the past, Bands of Mourning has always been my favorite in the series with Shadows of Self being my least favorite. I think those might have switched spots?

I think I always loved Bands of Mourning because of what it introduces to the world/magic systems. But based simply off my enjoyment level of reading it, I think I'd put the other two above it, which rather surprises me.

So pumped for The Lost Metal.

Thor: Love and Thunder:

'Twas alright. I think it's better than what I've heard from other people. For example, I prefer it over Thor: The Dark World. But definitely not my favorite film, and you would be hard pressed to find me watching it again at any given point ever.

Knives Out:

Pretty fantastic. There was quite a bit of language, which was unfortunate. Excited for Glass Onion.

It's A Wonderful Life:

Watched this on my mission. For some reason, the whole mission was given permission to watch it. My companion and I were playing Skull King with a couple other Elders, so I was only half paying attention to it and thought it was alright.

Soooo glad I got to watch it again the other day in Film Analysis class. Super good, super heartwarming. I loved it.

The Grapes of Wrath:

Watched this in film analysis class. I found it incredibly boring. Casey dying was sad. Besides that, I didn't feel invested at all. Things just kind of happened and then the movie ended. I felt like there was little resolution.

Characters felt shallow, so I didn't care what happened to them.

Plot acted like it was going to go places, and then nothing happened. That cycle repeated several times.

In concept, the movie should make me feel sad because of the hard things this family was going through.

In practice, I felt no connection to them.

If you wanted to watch the movie to be sad, I could simply spend 5 minutes reading about the dust bowl/great depression and it would make me sadder than watching 2 hours of this film.

If you want this as a historical piece, then go watch a historical piece.

The only reason I could see someone enjoying this is if they've had personal experiences with similar events. The movie will allow them to relive/remember what those days were like, and that can bring a lot of powerful emotions. I can see it being really powerful for them.

Besides that, I don't understand why someone would enjoy/want to watch this movie.

Pretty harsh review, haha. Hope I'm not making anyone upset.

Spy x Family:

Super fun anime :) Heartwarming. Surprisingly tense at some points, although I didn't actually like those moments because I felt it distracted from the overarching fun-going tone the anime has. Maybe those moments were only tense for me, idk.

Excited for future seasons!

My Hero Academia:

Top Tier anime right here. 9.5/10 overall, I think. It is a long-running show with over a hundred episodes and more to come, which can be intimidating. But it's a blast.

My Rankings of the Seasons: 3rd or 4th, 2nd, 1st, 5th

More to God's Plan

I wrote this a long while ago. On my mission, I'm pretty sure. Don't know why I never published it. Perhaps I was going to add more to it. Regardless, here it is now:

So I've been pondering about God's will/God's plan for us. It's a topic I have a lot of thoughts on, especially since it's a testimony that has grown largely on my mission. That our Father in Heaven does have a plan for each one of us and is in the details. This is something I've seen so clearly on my mission.

I wanted to write about an insight I had in 1st Nephi that I've never thought/heard of before.

So. Story goes down as thus:

Lehi dreams a dream, or in other words, he has a vision. His family needs to leave Jerusalem.

Laman and Lemuel are confused and frustrated as I'm sure many of us would be. They are definitely not excited to leave behind everything based off a dream their father had.

Then, if you recall, they leave behind all their treasures. Something I'm sure Laman and Lemuel were, once again very confused and frustrated about. The Book of Mormon Video on this shows it quite well, I think. "But Father, we may need them for trade! Or for... drinking."

They travel out into the wilderness. Lehi is told they need the Brass Plates (I'm sure Laman/Lemuel were frustrated and confused yet again. Why didn't the Lord just remind us when we were back in Jerusalem? But that question breaks off into a larger topic that I don't want to focus on here.), so the sons travel back.

They try to get the brass plates once. But fail.

But Nephi then has a fantastic idea! Trade all their treasures they left behind for the brass plates.

This is the part that I want to focus on and received an insight for that I had never thought of/heard of before.

In my imagined version of the events that took place, in those moments things started to click in Laman/Lemuel's head.

"Ahhh, this makes so much sense now! No wonder the Lord commanded us not to bring all of our treasures to the wilderness. He saw the beginning from the end and realized we would need them to get the brass plates!" (For purposes of this scenario, we're ignoring the question of why weren't they just reminded in the first place to get the plates.)

"Man, Heavenly Father does have a plan for us. This small detail comes back around and is now pivotal to the progression of our journey. Tender Mercy indeed :)"

Okay, okay. Here's the thing. As you may know (I'm assuming a vast vast majority of the people who will read this post know the basic events of this story in the Book of Mormon, but I suppose there may be someone who doesn't), it didn't exactly pan out that way.

"Laban, here are all these treasures. Our Father and Heaven commanded us to leave them here because he knew we would need to offer them to you. All we request is the Brass Plates."

"Behold, thou art a robber! I will slay thee!" (I think he actually says that during the first attempt to get the plates, but it works well here too and I like the line.)

"?¿?¿?¿? What about the plan that we thought God had for us???"

There are many times in our lives, I think, where we feel like we know God's plan for us. With our mortal brains, we connect of few of the lines that we see and we feel we understand the whole picture.

But then there come many times in our lives, I think, where we realize those plans that we thought were God's never really were, or, rather, are part of an even bigger plan God has that we don't fully know yet. Does understanding of why always come with that realization? Not as often as we may like.

And so frustration and confusion can so easily come.

It's important that we take a deep breath and be still.

That is easier said then done, but I testify that God is our Loving Heavenly Father and that he does have a plan for us.

Whether clear or not, the plan exists and I know that to be true.

I'll end with these simple scriptures that help me.

"Be still and know that I am God".
Psalm 46:10, Doctrine and Covenants 101:16

My Spring 2022 Smash Ultimate Season Recap

2nd Semester of BYU-Idaho complete. 2nd Season of competitive Super Smash finished.

Such a good season.

Highlights from this season:

- Won a total of $119, which blows my mind. ($75 was from a single tournament that was sponsored, so that helped).

- Have a 0-10 record against Jake. (0-11 if you count when we fought in redemption bracket at the pre-local to Crown II).

I faced Jake a lot, haha. More than anyone else this semester. And I lost to him every single time :) I'll get him next semester. Jake is my practice partner, but in theory that should help the both of us when we fight. We both know each other's habits super well. Jake's my GOAT.

- 3-0'd Bojangle's Roy. He proceeded to 3-0 me back with Falco. Twice. But regardless, I'm happy I got a set of Bojangles.

- Won my first ever tournament! (not counting the Fallon and High School tourneys). This, of course, meant that Jake and Naters weren't in attendance, but that doesn't mean my tournament win wasn't any a solid tournament win.

- Kept a clean 7-0 record against Carson, which lowkey might be the most impressive thing I've done this semester. Carson is really good and is definitely climbing in the ranks. He's consistently taken sets off everyone except the top 5 (but even then he's definitely gotten close against several of the top 5).

- Speaking of the top 5, I'm freakin' one of them!! I'm honestly super happy. My goal at the start of this semester was to be top 10. After a few tournaments of doing extremely well, I set an updated goal for myself; that new goal being to be top 5. And I achieved it :)

Here's the official Power Ranking graphic for this past semester (created by my brother Eric Perazzo):

Below are the various tournaments and placements that I got this past semester. This is simply a copy paste from my list that appears on the far right. The ones that will be copied below will be removed from the list.

As the new semester/season moves forward, my new results will be placed there. My plan is to refresh this list every semester and then update it throughout the course of the next semester/season.

The list includes Crown and associated tournaments as well even though those didn't count toward the Rexburg Power Rankings.

Note: They are all still hyperlinks. If you wanted to look at any of the stuff, it is still there.

My Take on Angel Beats

Finished watching Angel Beats for my first time.

And, to be honest, I'm kind of disappointed.

To compare my thoughts to others, I looked up a few reviews. I found Glass Reflection's final verdict (check it out here) shared a lot of the thoughts that I had.

Here's part of his review that very much aligns with my own thoughts:

"I don't feel like I should be calling Angel Beats bad per-se. Because it recovers enough from a lot of its executions to make itself somewhat enjoyable. However, the show's tone is all over the place and the pacing has been shot to [heck].

Honestly, this show needs more episodes. Not a sequel, mind you. The story is done. It's played out, and a sequel would only make things worse. But it really needed to be, like, twice the length that it actually was in order to fully flesh everything out, and that was something it just never got.

Emotion without purpose or reasoning means nothing to me.

Angel Beats never really gave me enough time to become attached to any character of any real interest.

And that's why even the ending failed me; forgetting about the massive plot-hole that was somehow shoehorned in there to make the emotional rollercoaster exist in the first place."

The show does have it's enjoyable moments for sure. But the pacing really was all over the place. And the characters felt shallow. Many parts that I could tell were supposed to be emotional didn't hit home for me at all. There were a couple shining moments that did, though (although only a couple).

I really think more episodes is exactly what was needed. More time to develop the characters, more time to pace out the plot and explain certain things. It would really really help.

I'm also curious if my watching of The Good Place has negatively influenced my perspective on Angel Beats. They both deal with the similar concept of being ready to move on after reaching the afterlife and such. And so I've already been through that sort of arc with a different set of characters.

Along those lines, The Good Place had 4 seasons (53 episodes of varying lengths (granted, I failed to watch several of the episodes from the first season)) to help me fall in love with those characters. I care for them. And so the last episode was powerful.

I only had 13 episodes (20ish minutes each), and by the end of those I only really had a decent connection to a couple of the characters. And so the last episode really didn't land for me.

Not bad, though. Not a bad anime at all. Definitely a pleasurable watch, for sure. Just not my favorite.

Has some really solid unexpected comedic moments that got me laughing out loud. Has a solid premise. Has good mystery elements; things that keep you curious about the world and how it works (granted, a lot of these questions never get answered, but regardless, it kept me engaged). Music is great. Animation is solid.

 Maybe a 7/10?

The Surprising Power of Ping Pong the Animation

You know, whenever I talk to people about Ping Pong The Animation, I always start off by explaining that it's not your typical sports anime.

And although that's true, I failed to realize just how true it really is until I rewatched it recently.

It was even better than I remember.

Perhaps because I'm older now, I've learned more about myself, experienced more things. Regardless of the reasons, Ping Pong The Animation really struck home this time around.

It really is a work of art.

It's so much more about other things rather than who's going to win. It focuses so much more on story-telling, character-development/character-arcs than it does on flashes action scenes.

The anime tackles so many deep topics in beautiful ways.

The topic of why we do the things we do. The topic of the pressure of always being on the top. The topic of Talent vs Hard Work. The topic of priorities -- work vs relationships, work vs fun. The topic of finding happiness.

The topic of being a good friend. Of being a hero.

And it does all of this in 11 episodes.

It astounds me.

My Favorite Movies Tier List

Super Important Note About This List:

I only included movies that I've watched recently enough that I remember well enough to rank. Or movies that are memorable enough/I remember how much I like them enough to include them.

Because of this we get:

Random additions such as Ice Age and Avatar which I just so happened to watch because my roommates were watching.

Fantastic movies that I haven't seen in many many years, but I know I adore such as Prince of Egypt and Joseph King of Dreams.

Movies that I haven't watched in many many years, but I remember that I didn't like them at all such as Captain Marvel.

But this also causes the list to miss out on a lot of things, of course. Many many movies fall into this category of simply not being included (all the Harry Potter Movies, The Hunger Games are also ones that I thought of in the past two seconds).

This is why you see movies such as Frozen II but not Frozen I, even though I'm confident I prefer Frozen I.

Eric and my mom also made Tier Lists that should be posted soon. Check them out as well :)

100 Days of Wordle

Still got a 100% win rate 💪

Here are my stats. I have screenshots of my games as well, if you're curious about a specific day, feel free to ask.

General Strats:

Ryan introduced me this concept of three words that work in conjunction together. He (as far as I'm aware) uses SNORT, ADIEU, LYMPH.

I started uses that for a while, but then made a small adjustment which I like. I now frequently use STERN, AUDIO, LYMPH.

I like the slightly adjusted version because I like using the E in the first word and how the D is in the middle.

Depending on which letters come up, I don't necessarily use all three words every time, but I do so frequently.

I play rather safe. If I only have two guesses left, I use one of my guesses using many of the random letters that I think could be in the word in order to ensure that my 6th guess will be correct.

Wordle has been a good time indeed.

My Crown II (a 416-person SSBU Tournament) Experience

Over the course of June 17th through the 20th I got to go to my first ever Regional for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, Crown II.

It was a blast :)

I'm going to break down the separate parts and write briefly about it and what went down. Honestly, this is more for my journal-keeping, but I hope some of you enjoy reading some of my experiences regardless.

Putting Crew Battles first since it was my favorite event, even though it was the last thing to take place.

Crew Battles:

Crew Battles was my favorite part of the whole weekend.

Crew Battles, simply put, is where you have two regions fight off against each other.

In this case, there were 5 people on each team. You do 1 person vs. 1 person and play a game like normal. But the thing is, stocks carry over. So if I eliminated my opponent, but in the process lost two stocks, during the next game I would start off with 1 stock versus my opponent's three. You go until one crew is out of stocks. So with 5 people on each crew, that meant 15 stocks altogether.

We fought against Reno, which was pretty funny considering that Ben and I would both be in that Region when living in Fallon.

Reno has a top 50 US player, so we knew it was going to be really difficult to win.

The Tournament Organizers encouraged friendly smack-talking, so we were screaming the entire time. Any time the opponent got hit we were yelling at how we were going to destroy them. We were cheering so loud whenever our team got a stock. It was an absolute blast and many of us woke up the next morning with not quite a full voice.

We decided to send in me first since Pokémon Trainer has a pretty good match-up spread and I only play one character (all the other people on our team play multiple characters, which means we could counter pick our opponents accordingly).

They send out a Link player first. Not my favorite match up. But I was in the zone. No nervousness, just focus. I beat him soundly, only losing one stock, which means I have two stocks left over to fight my next opponent.

They send out a Cloud player next. Earlier that day, I was playing friendlies against a Cloud player and was feeling confident against Cloud. Indeed, I played extremely well and only lost one stock and took out his three.

This is where they got serious, and they sent out MFA, the top 50 player in the US. I kept it close, but he took my last stock before I was able to take one.

But overall I took 6 stocks. My whole team was cheering for me. I played some of the best I've ever played, I think. And suddenly, there was a chance that we could actually win the crew battle.

And then MFA proceeded to single handedly take 8 more stocks before he lost his three. He took 9 out of our total of 15 stocks.

It was incredibly difficult to recover from that, but we kept it close. It was so much fun the whole way through. There were a couple pivotal parts that if one of our players took one more stock than they did, we think we could have clutched it out.

But in the end, they were left with 2 stocks when they eliminated our last stock.

Honestly super proud at how Rexburg did. So much fun.

Pre-Local King's Court:

There was a tournament before the regional tournament. This tournament having about 188 people. It was a good place to get out tournament jitters. I definitely know I could have done better. I went 1-2. In fact, all of Rexburg's representation did pretty poorly with Jake, our best representation from Rexburg, also going 1-2.

Not a great start performance-wise for the weekend, but it was a lot of fun and got us warmed up.

King's Court Redemption:

Luckily, there were several redemption brackets. All the people who wanted to that went 1-2 in the main bracket got put in a redemption bracket together. (Same thing happened with those that went 0-2 and 2-2).

I started off by fighting a Link player, I believe. Link is not my favorite match-up, but I kept him overwhelmed, which helps a lot. Solid 2 stock game 1.

Game 2, he switch over to Rosalina & Luma, which I've never really fought against before. It was an uncomfortable match throughout -- a much more difficult game than game 1 -- but I managed to clutch it out before they could force a game 3.

Round 2, I had the luck of fighting Jake. He beat me. As always. We've fought 12 times I think this semester? I've lost every single time.

Drop into loser's and I fight a Shulk. Super fun match. I clutch out game 1, he clutches out game 2. Game 3 was really intense. I got a solid jab-lock to close it out. Ben (who was watching the set) popped off for me.

Next Round I fight Nova, who is a player from our Region. Before this, I've fought him 3 times, and I beat him two of those times. I was confident going in, but I always know that Nova has the potential to beat me. I played solidly and got a clean 2-0.

I then fought a Steve player. And, honestly, I lowkey don't know how he made it that far into bracket. Maybe it's just because I have practice against Steve, but I absolutely destroyed him both games. 3 stock and a 2 stock.

I then fought a Pac-Man player who almost beat Jake in winner's side. Winner of this match fought Jake next. And Jake really really really didn't want to play this Pac-Man again because of their play style. Indeed, they played incredibly campy.

The Pac-Man won game 1 and won game 2. The Pac-Man was up game 3. The thought of Jake really not wanting to play this guy again got me focused up though. I barely clutched it out with some Charizard with rage shenanigans.

Jake proceeded to beat me like normal, haha.

I took 3rd out of 19 and was really happy with it :)

Doubles:

Honestly not much to report here, haha. Ben and I entered as a doubles team and had a blast together, but went 0-2.

Crown II:

Biggest tournament I've entered by far with 416 people. Pretty exciting.

My Round 1 opponent didn't show up. Kind of sad.

Round 2 I fight Splash Daddy, who was seeded 27th (or something close to that). He has a solid 2-0 victory on me, which is expected. But I took him to last stock both games, which I was happy about.

In Loser's I fought someone who I beat up pretty bad. Don't even remember the character they played :/

Next guy I also don't remember, haha. It was closer than the previous match, but I also won that 2-0.

I then fought a Bayonetta who plays a lot lot more patient than the Bayonetta that's in our region. It was definitely do-able, but I lost 2-0.

And that was my tournament run. Half of which I don't remember who I fought against, haha. I went 2-2 (or 3-2, if you count the DQ). I took 129th out of the 416 (of course, tieing for that spot with many many others). I'm happy with how I did. My goal was 2-2 and I hit it.

Crown II Redemption:

Just like the tournament the day before, they ran redemption brackets. Me alongside 38 other people who went 2-2 got put into a tournament bracket against each other.

I should have written about this sooner because I forget a lot of the characters I fought against in this bracket.

Beat my first two opponents.

Next person played Peach, which simply feels uncomfortable to fight against. Game 1 was relatively close the whole time, but you could tell my opponent had the upper hand. Last stock I was at 160% and got a cheesy back air with Charizard that killed my opponent at 60% or something stupid like that. Barely closed out game 1. Which was important because he solidly two stocked me in game 2.

Game 3 I made a lot of adaptions. Kept it close the whole time. Really good game. I closed it out in the end. Really happy with this win.

Next guy was a lot easier, and beat him. Then I lost to a Kazuya. Definitely doable, but I was okay with the loss.

I was rushing to my next event, so I focus as much as I would have liked on my next match. Lost to a Robin. Not sure how well I would've done if I wasn't feeling rushed, but regardless I was okay with the loss.

I got 5th out of 39, which I was super happy about :) Definitely played well and it was good to feel like I could compete with those around my skill level.

Other Experiences (meeting top players/watching Crown live):

So I have this thing where it's really difficult for me to watch sports after the fact. I have to watch it live, or else I lose a lot of interest.

With Smash Brothers, similar thing applies where watching tournaments live on twitch is a lot better than watching it after the fact. With the exception of watching my favorite players/watching my favorite characters, it's a lot harder for me to watch Smash Brothers after the fact.

Well, I didn't anticipate how even more exciting it would be to be in person watching the sets. It's so fun to be part of the crowd cheering for the players. To be part of that energy. So cool.

Got to take a picture with BassMage (my favorite pro player that was in attendance) which was pretty hype :)

Thoughts on Mistborn after a 4th Readthrough

Can I express how much I love Mistborn?

This book consistently blows me away even after all this time. I love it dearly. What a wonderful wonderful book.

The series as a whole is, as is probably common knowledge, definitely my favorite series I've ever read. And the first book kicks it off with a beautiful start.

Here are some of my main takeaways from my fourth readthrough:

SPOILERS ahead for Mistborn (but only for the first book. I won't reference anything from the next two). Please please do not read on if you haven't read Mistborn. It's too good to spoil for yourself. Just go out and read it; it'll be worth it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. I think the biggest thing that was different for me this time reading through the book was the fact that I felt differently about Vin drawing upon the Mists to receive power.

In the past I always felt like the moment was too deus ex machina, and maybe it still is. But for some reason reading through the book this time, the amount of references to how the mists give mistborn power and such stood out to me more. So when the event took place, it didn't surprise me as much, I suppose you could say. It seemed more realistic/believable.

Which is a big plus. I've always been bugged by how much it felt like a simple deus ex machina, so it was refreshing to not feel that way so much this readthrough.

2. I didn't realize until this readthrough just how much foreshadowing there is in regards to Kelsier setting himself up as a religious figure and having to get himself killed in order to accomplish that. It was amazing to see.

3. Part 1 of the book wasn't my favorite for it being my fourth read through.

Part 1 does a lot of world building, magic system explaining, and introducing of characters. For someone who knows the world quite a bit, the magic system practically inside and out, the characters, and the future of all of those said things, it was a little bit slow, haha.

Of course, I recognize how good it is for a first time reader. The intrigue regarding the magic system, and the thought-out explanation of it. The amazing character introductions where you instantly feel like you know the characters well even though you've barely spent any time with them. It's good stuff.

I also particularly love the character development of seeing who Vin is before meeting the crew and after.

I guess why it's not as good in the fourth readthrough is that it is introducing all of the things that a re-reader needs the least refresher on. A lot of the other events that take place, there are various details that may have been forgotten and such -- and the plot itself is always riveting to read. But the exposition/basics of allomancy/basic character traits are harder to forget, I think.

4. For me at least, I love how natural and sweet Vin and Elend's romance in this book was. It just felt right. Not forced in any way. They're pretty adorable.

5. I am surprised at how well this stands as a stand-alone novel, while simultaneously being a beautiful introduction to a fascinating world with so many secrets yet to explore and learn about. It can definitely be read as a stand-alone novel if one really wanted to; I think this is my first time really seeing that.

Of course, that reader is missing out on sooooooooooo much and it would make me terribly sad if they chose to not read the sequels. But I can now comprehend how that choice is made.

But, seriously. Everyone should read the sequels.

6. I love this book. Even though I knew that, I kind of forgot to what extent I love this book. I love it so very much. And I am so excited to get to reread the next two here shortly :)

Can't Work On It Forever (TØP Fav Songs List)

Welp, this has been brewing for the past 6 months. And, frankly, it could brew for another 6 months. A list of this size is constantly shifting around, especially when compared to my other favorite lists. I listen to Twenty One Pilots almost on a daily basis.

I (sadly) don't play board games every day, let alone several. I don't finish a book a day, let along several. But I do listen to many-a-Twenty One Pilots songs a day. And so my opinions are constantly being revised about the exact order of where they place.

But, I decided, I needed to just post the list and then make revisions in the future. But the first step is just posting it. So here it is.

Couple notable things:
-Lovely has the Regional at Best cover art, but I'm actually referring to the Vessel version of the song.

-The songs in the D tier are the only songs I would say that I dislike. And even then, I do like to occasionally listen to them.

-I split S tier into three different tiers because I just love so many of their songs that much, haha.

Rhythm of War (and what's next on the reading chopping block)

Welp, I finally finished Rhythm of War.

And boy o boy did I love it.

2nd favorite in the series, I think? I think I preferred Words of Radiance, but it's been so so long now since I've read that that I could be embezzling just how good it was in my mind. I can say pretty confidently that I preferred Rhythm of War over The Way of Kings and Oathbringer, though.

Current order:

1. Words of Radiance

2. Rhythm of War

3. The Way of Kings

4. Oathbringer

I am itching for more Stormlight Archive right now, but it'll be a little while yet until book 5.

So in the meantime, I have a few other things I intend to read.

I do need to prepare for Wax and Wayne Book 4, which I am so pumped for. Already preordered it. Only 6 more months!

I'm planning on rereading the Mistborn trilogy and then the Wax and Wayne books to prepare, but I'm not sure when. I might read some of Brandon Sanderson's short stories first (such as Dreamer and Snapshot) that I haven't read yet in order to spice in some quicker reads amongst the heavier reads. Sometimes need a break between reading Stormlight and the entirety of Mistborn stuff. But maybe I will just dive straight into Mistborn. Currently undecided. Will probably end up making a decision tomorrow.

Also currently reading The Zookeeper's Secret for my Career and Self Discovery class, which has been a really good read so far. Definitely has some solid insights and has been proving useful.

My First Month of Wordle

Welp, first month of playing Wordle has been a blast.

Stats and link to google drive that has all my wordles thus far are at the bottom of this post.

My general strategy and what I go for when creating words:

Obviously it was different the first week or so, but now I've kind of gotten into a groove. Credit goes to a random youtube comment on this general strategy, although I do mix it up, which I will talk about.

I always start with the word STOMP. If only one of the letters is used in the correct word, I follow up with the word ADIEU. This two words in conjunction get some major common letters and all the vowels used.

From there, I use all the correct letters I've been giving and try to mix in the letters R, C, H, K, or L. Those five tend to be my priority. I try to avoid all double letters until I would reasonably feel confident that the correct word has a double letter.

However, I divert from that base if two or more of my letters from STOMP are correct. I then use my correct letters and mix in the letters E, A, and R as my top priority.

That's the general idea of what I do each time. But obviously in every Wordle my thought processes and methods change depending on what letters show up as green/yellow and such.

Anyway, I'm excited for my continued Wordle adventures :)

SSBU Tourney Results (Updated List Explanation)

Just look at the stuff in bold. That's all that really matters.

Newest Change: Adding in my seed going into the tournament.

Explanation of the new list currently entitled "SSBU Tourney Results". (SSBU stands for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate)

Format of each item in list:

The first item: A link to this post.

The second item: A link to a recap of my previous season including all of my placements and such.

The third item: The kind of but not really Official PGR. This is a website our region has been using to keep track of players' rankings within the region. It auto-ranks people based off how well they did in tournaments they have attended and such.

There are debates on how well it does its job. It seems to weigh certain things more than many people in our region would weigh it. I'm under the tag "Theo".

All other items:

Placement (out of number of people), Seed #, Abbreviation of Tournament Name, Money Won.

If clicked upon, they are linked to the tournament's bracket found on smash.gg.

Newest tournaments will now be at the bottom of the list instead of the top.

My seed should help you (and me) see how well I should do vs how well I did. I think it'll help put a lot of things in prospective.

The tournaments taking place, their names, whether they're a weekly/bi-weekly/monthly etc. vary, especially compared to last semester, so I'm not going to try to list all the tournaments and describe them like I did for last semester.

My Winter 2022 Smash Ultimate Season Recap

And so the next season of Smash Brothers Ultimate begins!

Last semester was a blast. I got to meet a ton of super cool people, make some solid friends, play a game I love a ton, and be involved in a competitive scene.

Few highlights from last season:

-Took a set off of Jake (4th best player in Rexburg. Also my practice partner and friend.)

-Took 3rd at a Not Blue Light Bash and prize-pooled for the first time (won $9).

-Destroyed my goal of making Top 8 once (I got top 8 four times).

-Won a Thug Finals bracket (random character, random stage, one stock, best of one, items on).

-Won a Blindfolded bracket (random character, stage with walls so you can't walk off, one stock, best of one, play purely based off sound).

-Took Top 10 in the Melee PGR somehow (actually, I'll tell you how: There were only 13 people to rank. I only had to beat out 3 people. It was still hilarious/awesome to see I was in a Melee Top 10 PGR though, haha).

There was also some disheartening times. Although I wanted to highlight one in particular because it's fantastic.

I was playing my friend BowManny and this happened in game 3 (aka, whoever won this game, moved on in the tournament):

(for reference, I'm the Ivysaur)

I, surprisingly, am arguably top 10 this semester, and will be in the discussion for the top 10 PGR (although I already know I won't make it. I will be placed as 11th, 12th, or 13th).

My goal for this semester is to be top 10. It'll be tough, but I'm excited.

Below are the various tournaments and placements that I got this past semester. This is simply a copy paste from my list that appears on the far right. The ones that will be copied below will be removed from the list. Then, as this new semester/season moves forward, my new results will be placed there. My plan is to refresh this list every semester and then update it throughout the course of the next semester/season.

I'll presumably do a redo of the explanation of said list each semester as well since the tournament names and potentially other things change overtime.

Note: They are all still hyperlinks. If you wanted to look at any of the stuff, it is still there.

End of my First Semester Quick Recap (and I took several typing tests)

So it turns out I average around 72 wpm, which is wild to me. I definitely thought I was in the 50-60 wpm range.

Welp, I'm coming to a close at my first semester up at college. It's been good.

Classes Recap:

Calculus was challenging and exciting. I learned to love Calculus.

Precalculus was easy and not exciting. I learned to dislike Precalculus. (It just felt like tons of plugging things into algorithms and such. Not my favorite; I don't feel like I'm learning anything when I do that)

Teaching as a Profession was interesting and certainly had its ups and downs. Not sure how much it's actually helped me.

Tutoring Mathematics was super cool. I had the opportunity to go into classes at one of the local high schools here and help tutor. Super cool experience overall.

New Testament was alright. I enjoyed being in class most of the time, but out of class work wasn't the greatest. Subject was great, teacher wasn't my favorite.

Hobbies and Misc. Recap:

Super Smash Bros competitive scene has been a blast. I want to write a recap of my first season. Hopefully I can get around to it.

Dating has gone surprisingly well.

Less board gaming and reading was done than desired.

Adequate amounts of sleep was obtained.

Fairly good nutrients were consumed.

I definitely need the break that's in front of me. But I'm definitely excited to continue with what's been my college life thus far :)

My Homecoming Talk (Given November 2021)

This is my talk I gave on the Sunday I returned home from my full-time mission serving in the Utah Salt Lake City Mission.

I was asked to use the scripture D&C 49:27, "Behold, I will go before you and be your rearward; and I will be in your midst, and you shall not be confounded." My Bishop wanted me to take what I have learned on my mission/experiences I had on my mission to teach.

Throughout the talk, the brackets [  ] are used to make notes to myself as the speaker. Brackets like {  } are edits that I have put in to make certain things clearer for purposes of reading the talk vs listening to me give the talk.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Preach My Gospel, it says, "the first few moments with people are very important".

Which I find pertinent because 1. many of you I do not know and have not had those first few moments with. The ward boundaries changed while I was on my mission.

And 2 I think it's interesting because although I already know many of you and have already experienced those first few moments with you, I feel that the returned missionary version of somebody is almost an entirely different person, or a new creature, as the scriptures may describe it.

I can testify that that is true of me as well. My mission has been the transforming experience I always hoped it would be, although it certainly wasn't how I thought it was going to be.

So, weirdly, both as a new creature to some and as a new face to others, I suppose I should introduce myself.

My name is Alex Perazzo. I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, who I testify is the Savior and Redeemer of the world. I returned home from serving in the Utah Salt Lake City Mission all but two days ago. I am the son of Glen and Beth Perazzo who I'm sure many of you know.

As I stated, my mission certainly wasn't what I thought it was going to be.

I started my mission in November 2019. 4 months before Covid hit. On March 18th, 2020, our day started off with an earthquake and later that day we were told we were to be quarantined. We could only go outside, for a few hours a day.

We were stuck inside for roughly 3 months, which I will interject was a blessing for how short it was. I know many missionaries that spent months and months longer inside.

There were floods of missionaries leaving our mission to go to their home country, and floods more entering our mission from being reassigned from all across the world.

Meanwhile, as you know, in normal life, businesses were shutting down, people were losing their jobs, weddings were postponed, colleges went online, people we may know may be passing away, and I'm sure a slew of other things went down that threw a wrench in the normal plan of life.

It can be hard to imagine that God has a plan for you when things like these are going on.

And yet, it is perhaps one of the greatest things I learned and saw during the course of my mission. I know that God has a plan for every single one of us.

I know what it says in Doctrine and Covenants 49:27 is true, "Behold, I will go before you and be your rearward; and I will be in your midst, and you shall not be confounded."

I want to share some experiences with you that I had on my mission that have testified to me that this is true.

I will state, however, that regardless of the miracles I saw and the Lord's hand I witnessed, first and foremost I know these things by the power of the Holy Spirit which is in me. These experiences just add on to my testimony that is built through the spirit.

I want to start off by telling a story about The Grinch. I never learned his real name. He simply introduced himself as the Grinch and we knew him as that ever since.

Let me set the scene a bit. Park Place. Legendary apartment complex. Super good for missionary work. We spent probably over an hour a day there while I was in that area for 4 and a half months.

It was kind of sketch, that's for sure. Although I never saw it myself, a couple other Elders had reports of them going up stairwells only to find people doing drugs in the middle of the stairwell.

It was run down for sure. But, at least in this case, that meant lots of humble people.

Regardless of their current circumstances and struggles, many of them wanted to change and that's what matters most.

There are 10 buildings in Park Place. At the time of me meeting The Grinch, I had tracted 1, maybe 2 buildings out of the 10.

The Grinch was born and raised in Utah. He was the son of a Bishop. According to The Grinch, his parents were extremely controlling in regards to him and church and it pushed him away.

Since then (so, crossing the span of probably 30 years), he completely distanced himself from the Church.

As of late, The Grinch said he had tried to reach out to God but felt nothing in return. And so he put God in a "time-out" (those are his words) and was waiting for a sign.

Whenever I was told this by someone, I laughed a little on the inside. You're waiting for God to reach out? You're waiting for a sign? You are talking to two emissaries of the Lord right now. You are talking to official representatives of the Church and of Jesus Christ. Do you not feel this is God reaching out?

And so I told him that. I said, "Grinch, can I tell you something? We prayed this morning to be directed as to where we should go today. As we considered which building of Park Place to tract, we felt inspired to come to building J. Your building. But furthermore, Grinch, when we got here, we were originally planning on knocking the bottom floor. But we felt we should come to the top instead. And here we so happen to bump into you. I tell you that this is God reaching out to you. This is not a mere coincidence."

And although Grinch never came back to Church or had a big change of heart, I know we were sent to him that day. I know that God had a plan for us, him, and each one of you.

I want to share a few other quick, but significant examples of God being in my midst, so to speak, during the course of my mission. Here are a few back to back. Know that I have many more.

Experience #1: My Favorite District

I remember one day, not too long after quarantine ended, looking around at my district that I loved with all my heart. I realized that 7 out of the 10 of us were reassigned from other missions.

I know that God planned for us to gather and be together. That God sent those missionaries across the world to be exactly where they needed to be. In that district. In that part of Salt Lake. Serving each other and serving the people in that area.

Many of them are still my favorite missionaries I have ever known.

Experience #2: Jerome

Jerome is known affectionately by many nicknames. Jimmy, Billy, Jerome the Homie, Short Brown Fat Guy (the last one, I will add, is most commonly used by himself).

I am convinced that one of the primary reasons why I was sent to the Utah Salt Lake City Mission was to meet this man. Save certain companions only, Jerome has made more of an impact on me than anyone else I have met on my mission.

Experience #3: Rock Springs

I absolutely loved my time up in Rock Springs, Wyoming. People think I’m joking when I talk about how much I love Wyoming, but trust me, I’m not. Wyoming is the best part of the mission. Wyoming is the holy land.

During my time there, Elder Townsend, one of my favorite companions, and I taught and baptized a lady who we'll call Sam.

Sam is my favorite person I have ever taught. She was taught off and on by missionaries for several years before making the step to be baptized.

It was an incredible experience, and to put it simply, I’ll quote what one of the members told Elder Townsend and I. She told us, “I believe Sam was waiting for you two to come teach her. She needed you two to do it. No one else.”

I believe in the idea that there is somebody out there on your mission that only you can touch the heart of. That you as an individual can make a difference that perhaps no one else can. Sam was that person for Elder Townsend and I.

Now, I want to take a step back and refocus on why I shared those experiences in the first place.

I know that Heavenly Father has a plan for us.

I have seen this time and time again.

This truth is most evident when looking upon our Savior Jesus Christ.

{In this section, I did not read the references to the quotes I was saying. I just let the scriptures flow into one another.}

"God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son." (John 3:16)

He is "the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by [him]." (John 14:6)

"There shall be no other name given nor any other way nor means whereby salvation can come unto the children of men, only in and through the name of Christ." (Mosiah 3:17)

"It is expedient that there should be a great and last sacrifice; yea, not a sacrifice of man, neither of beast, neither of any manner of fowl; for it shall not be a human sacrifice; but it must be an infinite and eternal sacrifice." (Alma 34:10)

"And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God." (Alma 7:10)

"And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; he will take upon him the sicknesses of his people." (Alma 7:11)

"He shall suffer pain of body, hunger, thirst, and fatigue, even more than man can suffer, except it be unto death; for behold, blood cometh from every pore." (Mosiah 3:7)

"He will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, that he may know how to succor his people." (Alma 7:12)

He will "make weak things become strong." (Ether 12:27)

"He hath gained the victory over the grave; and also in him is the sting of death swallowed up." (Mormon 7:5)

"For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." (1 Corinthians 15:22)

"Wherefore, how great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth, that they may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah." (2 Nephi 2:8)

How great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth!

People don't know these eternal important truths. These truths that bring so much solace to me and you are truths that many of the people you know and love do not have to rely upon.

One of my favorite quotes about missionary work is from Elder Bednar, back in April 2008.

He references members and the full-time missionaries. And now that I'm no longer a full-time missionary, he is talking just as much to me as he is to each of you.

He said,

"We properly pray for the safety and success of the full-time missionaries throughout the world. And a common element in many of our prayers is a request that the missionaries will be led to individuals and families who are prepared to receive the message of the Restoration. But ultimately it is my responsibility and your responsibility to find people for the missionaries to teach. Missionaries are full-time teachers; you and I are full-time finders. And you and I as lifelong missionaries should not be praying for the full-time missionaries to do our work!"

I think many of us understand the what and the why. We want to do missionary work. I think, commonly, what we don't understand is the 'how'. How does one share the gospel?

Elder Uchtdorf in April 2011 gives a perfect example of sharing in normal and natural ways.

"Years ago our family lived and worked among people who in almost every case were not of our faith. When they asked us how our weekend was, we tried to skip the usual topics—like sports events, movies, or the weather—and tried to share some religious experiences we had as a family over the weekend—for instance, what a youth speaker had said about the standards from For the Strength of Youth or how we were touched by the words of a young man who was leaving on his mission or how the gospel and the Church helped us as a family to overcome a specific challenge we had. We tried not to be preachy or overbearing. This often would lead to more in-depth discussions."

I wanted to share what I think is a perfect example of this from my last companion, Elder Kelly.

Before his mission, he ran cross country with his friend named Kyle. They had many long runs together and they had a long time to talk.

So, they talked about typical teenage boy topics. Sports and girls.

When talking about girls, Elder Kelly would get the chance to share his standards on dating. Why do you do that, Kyle would ask. Well, we've received guidance from a prophet. What's a prophet? Let me tell you.

As Elder Kelly was preparing to leave on a mission, Kyle asked him about missions. He thought it would be cool to serve a mission himself. Kyle was baptized a few weeks later and is now preparing to serve a mission :)

Conversations about girls led to Kyle changing his life forever.

Heavenly Father cares so much about his children. I promise you that he will be more than willing to help you as you share the gospel.

[Bear testimony]

I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior. I hope everything I do is a reflection of this knowledge that I have gained and continue to gain.

I bear witness of these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Christmas and New Year's (AKA Feb 25th and 28th)

Once upon a time, as an FHE group, we were discussing good ideas we could do for FHE.

Ben chucked out the idea of Christmas Caroling. I, of course, fully supported it because that's hilarious and should definitely be done in February. Sadly, not many others followed suit.

But slowly overtime, the idea formed. We would celebrate Christmas anyways. Christmas would be, of course, on the 25th. And we should go caroling to our FHE Sisters.

Ideas continued to spawn off from there. We decided to get each other gifts. But, to avoid not knowing what each other want/not wanting to go over in price range, we decided to do the one thing where you get someone else a gift, but it's actually for yourself. We also got our FHE Sisters small gifts.

I got Summoner Wars 2nd Edition, which I've been having tons of fun with. Ben is getting one of his SSBU sets reviewed by a pro player. Thomas counted buying a wedding ring as a gift to himself/his future wife because he didn't want to spend anything more after making such a big purchase.

On the 25th, we caroled. And it was glorious.

And today, of course, is New Year's as it is the last day of the month after Christmas. We'll be staying up until midnight (which, granted, isn't an uncommon occurrence) and doing a countdown. It's going to be a blast. Also, we may or may not start acting like it's 2023 to each other (and our FHE Sisters). That's yet to be determined.

Next up, Halloween on March 31st. More on that later :)

SSBU Tourney Results (list explanation)

Explanation of the new list currently entitled "SSBU Tourney Results". (SSBU stands for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate)

Format of each item in list:

The first item: A link to this post.

The second item: The kind of but not really Official PGR. This is a website our region has been using to keep track of players' rankings within the region. It auto-ranks people based off how well they did in tournaments they have attended and such.

There are debates on how well it does its job. It seems to weigh certain things more than many people in our region would weigh it. But we're giving it a shot regardless. I'm under the tag "Theo". (In case you're interested, my cousin, Ben, enters with the tag "MetaToaster".)

All other items:

Placement (out of number of people), Tournament Name. Money Won.

If clicked upon, they are linked to the tournament's bracket found on smash.gg.

BLB stands for Blue Light Bash. These tournaments are the bigger, more important tournaments, which take place every Thursday. Most top players in Rexburg (and some surrounding areas) are there if they're able to make it. There are consistently over 30 attendants. It has a venue fee of 4 dollars. If you want to enter the prize pool, it's an additional 3 dollars. Top 4 players who entered the prize pool receive prize money. These tournaments factor into the official player rankings (the PGR).

FF stands for Free Fridays. These tournaments are a fun, lower-pressure way to get more experience. Hence the name, they take place every Friday (unless something comes up for the Tournament Organizer (the TO)) and are free to enter. These do not factor into the PGR. Only a few top level players come to these tournaments each week, and there are about 16 entrants each week.

A Super Smash Brothers Melee bracket also takes place. You can also enter super fun side event brackets as well. Which side event depends on how the TO is feeling, but some possibilities include: Doubles, Squad Strike, Project M Squad Strike, Singles with certain items on, amongst other potential things. Doubles and Squad Strike are by far the most common, however.
